Overview
What is the price of the Honda CRF150R, and more importantly, is it worth its 5,949 euros against an army of 85 cc two-strokes that often cost less? The question deserves to be asked. Since its launch for the 2007 model year, the Honda CRF150R has carved out a unique place in the youth motocross landscape. This Honda CRF150R motocross bike is specifically designed for ambitious young riders who want to step up, and it does so with an argument no one else makes in this category: a 149.7 cc Unicam single-cylinder four-stroke engine, where the competition lines up snappy, lightweight two-strokes. Yes, the Honda CRF150R is indeed a four-stroke, and that's precisely what sets it apart. Its engine develops 23.5 horsepower at 12,500 rpm with 14.1 Nm of torque at 11,000 rpm. Numbers that speak for themselves: the power is there, but it comes on progressively, without the typical kick-in-the-back hit of an 85 cc two-stroke. For a young rider still learning, it's a mechanical safety net.

The Honda CRF150R is a competition motocross bike, not a toy. Its semi-double cradle steel tube frame weighs in at 83.9 kg wet, a contained weight that allows lighter riders to maneuver it effortlessly. The 1,260 mm wheelbase and 302 mm ground clearance reveal a geometry designed to soak up bumps and chain together banked turns. The Showa suspension — 37 mm inverted cartridge fork and Pro-Link single shock — is fully adjustable. You'll find the same level of care here as on the CRF 250 R and CRF 450 R, the big sisters of the lineup. Front and rear disc brakes with sintered pads deliver sharp, controllable bite. The 19-inch front and 16-inch rear wheels match the supermini format, the category in which it competes against modified 85 cc machines.
On the engine side, the 66 x 43.8 mm bore-and-stroke configuration runs a 11.7:1 compression ratio, the hallmark of a mill built to rev high. The five-speed gearbox, with close, well-spaced ratios, extracts every last bit of available power. The dual-pump lubrication system separates the engine oil circuit from the clutch circuit, a technical trick that extends component life and keeps the oil clean where it matters. The 4.2-liter tank remains modest, but on a motocross track, nobody rides 200 kilometers straight. The seat, perched at 866 mm, demands a minimum rider size; shorter riders will have to wait or opt for the small-wheel version.
The real issue with the CRF150R is its positioning. At 5,949 euros, it goes up against KTM 85 SX and Yamaha YZ85 models that offer a formidable power-to-weight ratio for less money. But the Honda plays on different ground: the progressiveness of a four-stroke, less frequent maintenance than a two-stroke pushed to its limits, and Honda's legendary reliability. For parents looking for a transition machine toward larger displacements, that's a solid argument. Used models, particularly the Honda CRF150R 2018 or 2019, regularly come up for sale on the market and offer a more accessible entry point. The CRF150R doesn't do excess. It does rigor, mechanical consistency, and the training of riders who, tomorrow, will climb onto a 250 without bad habits.
