Overview
Imagine a journey back to the future, where the shrill sound of a two-stroke and a vibrant fairing instantly transport you to the tracks of the 90s. This is the spirit of the Yamaha YZ 125 50th Anniversary. To celebrate half a century of machines that kick up the dirt, Yamaha is releasing this special edition that embraces a revival look with an off-white color scheme, a purple seat, and striking pink/purple graphics. Black rims and a decorated swingarm complete the picture. It's a visual statement, an assumed tribute to a time when fun was a priority. But beneath this party attire lies the latest YZ 125, the one that benefited from a complete overhaul in 2022.

Yamaha is one of the last guardians of the two-stroke in motocross, and this 2024 YZ 125 is their ultimate argument. With 42 horsepower from an engine that weighs only 95 kg fully fueled, it stands out as one of the most lively and lightweight in the category. The engine, completely new for two years, is the result of meticulous work: cylinder head, cylinder, piston, YPVS system, everything has been reworked to extract more power, especially in the mid-range and high RPMs. The Keihin PWK 38.1 mm carburetor with its Power Jet injects this dose of aggression that makes the difference on corner exits. Compared to its two-stroke competitors, it boasts impressive mechanical health and a desire to remain at the top.
The chassis is not to be outdone. The semi-double cradle aluminum frame is a jewel of lightness and rigidity. Engineers also worked on the ergonomics for the rider: a narrower fuel tank and radiators reduce the width between the knees by 36 mm, offering a radical feeling of slenderness. The seat has been flattened to facilitate transfers. Coupled with KYB suspension, which are absolute references in the world of cross, and boosted braking with a 270 mm front disc, everything is designed to ensure the rider feels in total symbiosis with the machine. With a seat height of 975 mm, it remains accessible, but its temperament demands commitment.
This anniversary edition, sold for 8699 euros, is therefore a multifaceted object. It will seduce the collector or nostalgic rider with its retro fairing, but above all, it is a formidable competition weapon for the ambitious young racer. It has the same technical base as the standard Icon Blue version, so there are no compromises on performance. The 7-liter fuel tank and 6-speed gearbox are there for intensive sessions. Yamaha proves with this machine that you can celebrate the past without sacrificing the future. It is not a simple commemoration, it is a reminder that the two-stroke, when developed with this passion, remains an incredibly lively and effective proposition on a circuit.
