Overview

It roars, it swears, it gets angry!!! Exhausts howl, the Low Rider passes. Anger overwhelms it and yearns to creep into your fingertips. Yet, the Low Rider S doesn't seem meaner than before. Okay, yes, alright, its air filter takes up a bit more space, the handlebar is a bit narrower, the two exhausts are now one, the bronze of the rims has disappeared, the rear turn signals have moved closer to the headlight, and the instrument cluster is mounted higher on the handlebar clamp. A subtle evolution, but nothing to set off fireworks. Yet, the rock becomes hard in its entrails.

Watts, more watts, more force in the heart of a bison load. Don't be fooled by this 117 figure. While the displacement of the big M8 twin hasn't changed, Harley has sufficiently upgraded enough parts to move it to another level. With new cylinder heads, an improved intake, reworked cooling, a more efficient exhaust system, a Heavy Breather air intake for better breathing, a redline shift to 5,900 rpm (+300 revolutions) and, above all, an SE8-511 camshaft pilfered from the 121 block, the engine moves to a "High Output" version to spew fire.

11% more power! The horsepower gains 9 horses to abound 114 at 5,020 rpm. Torque, for its part, gains 5 Nm - that is 173 units, or 17.6 mkg, to tear up as much rubber as arms. But this dose of maximum torque will only be reached at 4,000 rpm. Sporty Milwaukee Eight 117 H.O.?!!

Temperamental, in any case. And in 3 moods. The 2025 Softail models have all received a good infusion of technology. Starting with Riding Modes:

The Modes also have a specific effect on the new riding assistance systems. No more glancing at options to get traction control. It is now standard equipment, and pairs with the inertial measurement unit, cornering ABS, and residual torque management - all these systems are sensitive to lean angle. There was already a cruise control; the MoCo adds tire pressure monitoring, a USB-C socket, new switchgear, and a revised instrument cluster.

The Low Rider S also thinks about revising its suspension for more rigor and comfort. The brake lever becomes adjustable, a somewhat incongruous detail for a machine so expressive in its acerbity.

Which attacks, de facto, its 3.1 generation, with confirmation of its exceptional character: a huge engine, even more virulent than that of the other customs from the manufacturer. With it, it's the thunder buried in the entrails and rebellion on the road.

We should be able to uproot a tree with this block. So powered, the Low Rider S offers the best power-to-weight ratio of all models equipped with a Milwaukee Eight. Around it, the main components of the chassis are identical to the ex-Low Rider 114. The Softail frame is paired with a 43mm inverted fork, 19 and 16 inch rims, 300mm front brake discs / 1 292mm rear brake disc, and a shock absorber hidden under the seat.

The 117 Low Rider S isn't alone in its acid trip. A ST declination has been added to the catalog, in a "Club" style with a vintage fork head and a pair of saddlebags. The touring version, in a way. Still as dark, this power cruiser doesn't do good manners or lace. Grab the Drag Bar handlebar and make the Scorcher tires suffer under the assaults of the Big Twin. We wouldn't be surprised to see a little steel drool erupt from its jaws.
