Overview
How to explain that a motorcycle weighing over 400 kilograms, which struggles to exceed 170 mph, can justify a check for 37,000 euros? This is the question that crosses your mind when facing the CVO Electra Glide Ultra Classic of 2010. The answer is not found in a technical specification sheet, but in a philosophy. Here, you are not buying a means of transport, you are acquiring a rolling monument, the ultimate expression of the "King of the Highway" shaped by the Custom Vehicle Operations department.

The heart of the beast is this 1803 cm³ Screamin' Eagle Twin Cam, the largest block offered by Harley at the time. Forget horsepower, they are only eighty-six. The true deity is torque. These 148 Newton-meters, available from 3500 rpm, do not propel you, they move you with seismic authority. The motorcycle advances by its own will, with no apparent effort, in a deep and hypnotic rumble that vibrates every chrome part. It is a raw sensation, almost archaic, that you will not find on any Gold Wing or BMW K 1600, too polished, too aseptic.
Because it is indeed a luxury liner. The comfort is absolute, with a wide seat 75 centimeters from the ground, an adjustable passenger backrest, and pneumatic suspensions that transform asphalt into carpet. The equipment is incredibly comprehensive for the time: Harman/Kardon audio, integrated GPS, intercom, heating everywhere you can place a hand or a posterior. It is a climatic and sound bubble, isolated from the world but connected to the mechanics.
Yet, it must be admitted, this excess has a price beyond the simple euro. At 419 kilograms fully fueled, it demands concentration at every moment at low speed. Maneuverability in the city is a matter of logistics, and consumption associated with a 22-liter tank requires frequent stops. It is a motorcycle for straight highways, for road trips where you measure yourself against the horizon, not for winding mountain passes.
So, who is ready to invest such a sum? The hard-core traveler, for whom the journey is a ritual and not just a connection. The one who seeks aura and presence as much as the kilometer. The CVO Electra Glide is not a rational motorcycle. It is an object of passion, a flamboyant and noisy declaration that, for its devotees, is worth every penny of its exorbitant price. Others will never understand, and that's just fine.
