Overview
Imagine a transatlantic road-going vessel, a chrome steel behemoth that doesn’t move, it reigns. The 2011 CVO Electra Glide Ultra Classic, this isn’t a motorcycle you ride, it’s a territory you conquer. With its 419 kilograms fully fueled, it commands immediate respect, a physical presence that crushes the asphalt. Its heart is the mythical Twin Cam of 1803 cm³, a 45° V-twin that doesn't just turn, it breathes, it pulses, it transmits to the entire machine a heartbeat of a slumbering feline. A power of 96 horsepower may seem modest on paper, but that’s forgetting the essential: its titanic torque of 148 Nm, delivered from 3500 rpm, which propels you forward with a simple twist of the wrist, effortlessly, with the quiet authority of a locomotive.

Facing the competition, the Gold Wing or the BMW K 1600 GTL rely on silent fluidity and technology. The Harley, on the other hand, fully embraces its archaic and magnificent character. Its six-speed gearbox clicks with honest mechanics, the belt drive barely whispers, and the double cradle frame absorbs road imperfections with the serenity of a cruise ship. Braking, ensured by 300 mm discs front and rear, is effective without being aggressive, perfectly dosed to bring this colossal weight to a stop without drama. It’s a machine that requires preparation, physical commitment, especially at low speed or to maneuver it in the parking lot. But once launched on the highway, it transforms into a rolling fortress, isolating the rider and passenger in a cocoon of comfort regulated by pneumatic suspension.
Who is this for? Clearly not for the beginner or the aspiring track rider. This CVO is the ultimate weapon of the seasoned globetrotter, for whom travel is a ritual and the destination almost secondary. At 37,000 euros new, it was a symbol of status as much as a machine for kilometers, offering a level of finish and equipment (high-end stereo, integrated storage) that justified its price. It’s a motorcycle that is lived more than it is ridden, where the feeling of power and the image conveyed count as much as the technical specifications. It has its flaws: a consumption and a mass to manage, a top speed capped around 170 km/h. But its qualities are intangible: it offers a unique sensory experience, a feeling of belonging to a legend with every turn of the key. You don’t choose it rationally, but out of passion for a mechanical folklore that, at Harley-Davidson, merges with the very history of motorcycling.
