Overview
Who would have thought a cruise control would be enough to get people talking about a Harley? Milwaukee slipped this little electronic gadget onto the 2023 Fat Bob FXFBS, like putting a tie on a boxer. The gesture is almost comical. Because this 675-pound wet beast was never built for easy cruising. It's the thug of the Softail family, the one that growls while the others purr.

The switch from the Dyna platform to the Softail chassis changed everything on this machine. Gone is the dual lateral shock setup, replaced by a deceptively rigid steel frame with a mono-shock hidden under the seat, adjustable via a knob accessible behind the right calf. The gain in rigidity is clear, the handling sharper. The 43 mm inverted fork with 5.1 inches of travel holds a 16-inch front wheel wrapped in a 150 mm tire, flanked by two 300 mm discs clamped by four-piston calipers. From the front, the beast intimidates. The chopped fender, the nearly robotic LED headlight cluster — everything conspires to give the Fat Bob a presence few American customs can claim. Thirty-three pounds shed during the transformation have tightened its silhouette without thinning it out. At 652 pounds dry, it remains beefy, but carries its weight lower, denser.
On the style front, Harley cut deep. The rear fender halved, the seat thicker, the tank trimmed to 3.6 gallons, the exhaust pipes shamelessly exposed. The result is compact, squat, almost aggressive. This is a far cry from the easygoing cruiser. The Fat Bob looks more like a pitbull than a labrador, and that's exactly the point. Against an Indian Chief Dark Horse or a Triumph Bonneville Bobber, it plays a radically different card. No polished nostalgia, no British elegance. Just unapologetic brutality and a design that divides opinion, which is always a good sign.

The Milwaukee-Eight 114, a 45-degree V-twin displacing 1,868 cc, delivers 93 horsepower at 5,020 rpm and, more importantly, 155 Nm of torque from just 3,500 rpm. It's that fat, effortless thrust that defines the Fat Bob's character. The engine runs smoothly thanks to its 4 valves per cylinder and dual spark plugs, yet retains that deep pulse, that uneven rhythm distinctly American that enthusiasts come looking for. The belt drive and six-speed gearbox do their job without drama. Top speed caps out at 109 mph, which honestly puts the machine's road ambitions into perspective. This isn't a tool built to devour highways. It's a custom with character that prefers a deep rumble on back roads to clocking times on a straight.

At €21,890, the Fat Bob targets a specific buyer. Not the beginner, who'll be quickly discouraged by the 28-inch seat height and the weight. Not the long-distance tourer, who'll be forced into frequent stops by the 3.6-gallon tank. No, this Harley speaks to lovers of raw sensations, to those who want a machine with an uncompromising temperament, capable of turning every ride into a statement of intent. The Fat Bob doesn't do half measures. It hits, it growls, it commands attention. And that's precisely why it remains one of the most compelling models in Milwaukee's lineup.
