Overview

When Bologna releases a blacked-out sportbike, it’s not to save money. The "Black on Black" color scheme of the Ducati Panigale V2 2024 costs several hundred euros more than the traditional red version, which says everything about the house's philosophy: here, black is not an entry-level approach, it’s a statement of intent. Previous dark versions sacrificed decoration to cut costs. This one does the opposite. At €20,190, the Ducati Panigale V2 price sits in a category where the Honda CBR1000RR-R and the BMW M 1000 RR play a completely different budgetary game, but where the Yamaha R1 remains a serious rival.

Ducati Panigale V2

The history of this motorcycle is inseparable from that of its big sister. When the V4 took over in world competition, the L-twin risked becoming obsolete, retired before its time. Ducati chose otherwise. The 90-degree L-twin cylinder, a house architecture for decades, deserved better than the storage room. The Ducati Panigale V2 technical specifications bear witness: 955 cm3, compression ratio of 12.5:1, bore of 100 mm for a stroke of 60.8 mm. This Superquadro engine breathes differently from its predecessors thanks to revised intake ducts and redesigned injectors. Result: 155 horsepower at 10,750 rpm and 104 Nm at 9,000 rpm. Figures that look pale on paper compared to the V4’s 210 hp, but which provide in real use a frank liveliness, without the permanent hysteria of the four-cylinder engine.

What distinguishes the Ducati Panigale V2 2024 from its numbered ancestors is precisely that it no longer seeks to mimic the big one. The 899 was a 1199 slimmed down, the 848 a 1098 tamed. The V2 borrows the lines of the V4 without sharing its technical base. The aluminum monocoque frame serves as an airbox and a supporting structure, as on all Panigale models, but the geometry, the swingarms, the seductive monobrach overlooking the rear rim, all form a unique identity. The 43 mm Showa BPF fork, the Brembo radial-mount calipers biting 320 mm discs, the 130 mm stroke Sachs shock absorber, everything is adjustable. Ducati has even softened the damping parameters compared to previous versions, a welcome concession for those who want to ride on the road without having their lumbar region crushed.

The electronics represent the real break with the 959. The 6-axis IMU inertial unit changes everything: ABS becomes cornering with three levels of intervention modulable according to use, traction control DTC goes to version EVO 2 with a significantly increased anticipation capability, the DQS EVO 2 quickshifter manages gear changes taking into account the lean angle. The wheelie control completes the arsenal. The 4.3-inch color TFT display replaces the old liquid crystals and centralizes information in a readable way. As an option, the GPS lap timer and the Ducati Data Analyzer data analyzer allow track enthusiasts to experiment with telemetry without investing in professional equipment. Owners of Ducati Panigale V2 used models from the 2020 or 2021 model years will measure the generational gap on this single electronic chapter.

Ducati Panigale V2

At 200 kg full weight for a 840 mm seat height, the V2 is not a beginner’s motorcycle. The Ducati Panigale V2 top speed announced at 270 km/h places this machine in a category that demands a real technical background. It is aimed at the experienced rider who wants to do track days without the compromises of a V4 that is too radical, or who rides on the road seeking a higher level of engagement than what a classic Japanese hypersport offers. The lines of the Ducati Panigale V2 white or black, depending on each person's sensitivity, leave no one indifferent. It is a motorcycle that has something to say, and that says it without seeking your approval.
