Overview
When Ducati released the V4 and its 214 horsepower to compete in the World Superbike paddocks, a legitimate question arose: what would become of Bologna's twin? The answer is the Ducati Panigale V2, and it deserves attention. Not as a consolation for those who can’t afford the V4, but as a coherent proposition, with its own logic.

The 90° L-twin Superquadro engine, with a displacement of 955 cm3, produces 155 horsepower at 10,750 rpm and 104 Nm of torque at 9,000 rpm. Figures that seem almost modest compared to the four-cylinder’s excesses, but which in practice represent a power more than sufficient to reach speeds of 270 km/h. The Ducati Panigale V2 technical specifications reveal a weight of 200 kg fully fueled, for 176 kg dry, placing it in the same category as the Kawasaki ZX-6R or the Yamaha R7, with however a significantly larger displacement. For €20,190, it is above the Japanese models, but the Superquadro V-twin and the aluminum monobrach are not found in the Yamaha catalog. The Ducati Panigale V2 price is justified on this ground, that of character and careful construction.
The chassis borrows the structure of the 959, and Ducati has not sought to apologize for it. The aluminum monocoque frame simultaneously serves as an airbox and a supporting structure, a signature that the brand refuses to abandon. The 43 mm Showa BPF fork, fully adjustable, works with a Sachs rear shock with offset preload, also adjustable in all directions. Brembo brakes provide a reassuring presence with their four-piston calipers at the front, 320 mm discs. It’s one step below the M50s of the V4, certainly, but the M4.32s do the job with a precision that leaves little room for discussion. The short wheelbase of 1,436 mm announces lively handling, almost incisive in rapid transitions.

What really changes compared to the previous generation is located on the electronics side. The six-axis IMU inertial unit opens the door to a cornering ABS with three levels of intervention, an eight-level DTC EVO 2 traction control, a bidirectional DQS quickshifter, and an anti-wheelie control. The central 4.3-inch color TFT screen centralizes all of this with correct readability. Nothing revolutionary on paper, but the whole thing works with a coherence that was lacking in the 959. The Ducati Panigale V2 2020 laid these foundations, the 2023 version refines them without overturning them. Those looking for a Ducati Panigale V2 used will do well to check for the presence of this IMU, absent on earlier versions, which noticeably changes the quality of the assistance.

The target audience is not the pure racer who already orders a Ducati Panigale V2 R or compares lap times with the data from the Ducati Panigale V2 Final Edition. It is rather the experienced rider who wants a high-character sportbike, usable on the road without excessive masochism, engageable on the track without being distanced by their own equipment. The raised 830 mm seat and the reworked suspension for a little more suppleness go in this direction. Some will fit a Termignoni or Arrow exhaust to wake up the sound and gain a few kilos; the Ducati Panigale V2 Termignoni exhaust and Arrow variants are classics in the community, and the bike accepts them well. It’s not a perfect machine: the seat height excludes short riders and the new price requires reflection in the face of more accessible Japanese competition. But when a Bolognese V2 revs up under your thigh, these considerations evaporate pretty quickly.
