Overview

The luggage and mudguard are not included as standard equipment. But the Multistrada V4 Rally will quickly make you understand that it longs to have them. For 2026, Ducati’s large explorer is refined with several details. Nothing to fundamentally transform it; just to improve the various stages of the journey.

To begin, it is equipped with DVO technology, which appeared on the last Panigale V4. This algorithm simulates dozens of sensors to make the electronic aids more precise and therefore more effective. Then, the suspensions. The rider can now adjust them while riding, independently of the Riding Mode. For low-speed maneuvers, they automatically “drop” when the speed is below 10 km/h. Then the brakes. The Rally adopts the combined braking strategy of the standard MTS V4, with an action on the front brake when braking from the rear. It is reprogrammed to suit the machine’s more demanding pretensions.

The dashboard is not forgotten with a slight revision of the interface, with better access to the suspensions, and to the heated elements when they are installed; the heated grips are standard, not the seat. Ducati also adds tire pressure monitoring.

A little more torque a touch higher in the rev range (from 121 Nm to 123.8 Nm), a revised center stand, a top-case support bracket improved, the installation of the 2.0 shifter for a more direct feel, an shock absorber with 2 mm more preload range (18 mm -> 20 mm), a rear brake disc that goes to 280 mm, a higher swingarm pivot for more maneuverability – The new Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally may look like two drops of water to the old one, but Bologna has worked to make it more exploitable.

Genesis of the Multistrada V4 Rally

With the Rally, Ducati has a complete offer, the peak of which is only conceivable with a large carrier, loaded with fuel to the apogee of the border. To string along from the milestone to when the bladder is the strongest. This version has more liters in the belly sprinkled with a desire to cross the mountains and rocks.

It will not have escaped you that the MTS Rally seems a little taller. Because it is. The suspensions offer a few mm of extra travel to reach 200 mm on either side. Reassuring when you can overcome a few bumps more or less present. Without going into pure enduro – a motorcycle of this tonnage will not be comfortable there. The 40 mm and 20 mm taller and wider bubble also contributes to this impression.

It also seems more robust. This is partly due to its aluminum engine guard of a larger size, and even more so to its more marked shoulders. The adoption of a large tank led the development to revise part of the front. Thus the rider benefits from greater protection thanks to the bubble and its deflectors. These go all the way to limit disturbances for the passenger. Who is not the least spoiled in this perspective of travel: the Multistrada V4 Rally moves the luggage fixing points further back to give him more space. It also offers a center stand, larger footrests with more rubber to reduce vibrations, tubeless spoke wheels and a ventilated housing in the left fairing to accommodate a laptop.

Plan to bring an extra water bottle for each on board, as the stages can be long. This Multistrada is the most generous in terms of fuel capacity, with 30 liters on board. 8 more than the V4 and V4 S. Ducati applies the same philosophy as for the old 1260 Enduro but also the competitors BMW 1300 GSA, Triumph 1200 Tiger Rally Explorer and Honda Africa Twin Rally Adventure, all sporting a generous tank. When riding normally, exceeding 400 km is feasible. But the V4 tends to be greedy if you enjoy its 170 horsepower.

There is no reason for the Rally to be more or less powerful than the other Multistrada V4s. The firepower is therefore available in all circumstances. Even if so much power is more megalomania than real utility. Very powerful, full of beans, it strengthens throughout the acceleration, with a fury worthy of a true sports car. The Granturismo V4 engine has, since its launch, the possibility of "turning off" its rear cylinders, at idle; to limit consumption and heat. On this Rally, Ducati installs a small peculiarity. Deactivation can continue while driving, at low speed, where you don’t need a lot of watts. But as soon as you twist, the sparks return and the cavalry bursts forth. Depending on the horizon, everything can go very fast.

A little less when it comes to going in the rough. Although the suspates have gained respectively 30 mm (F) and 20 mm (R), the ground clearance only increases by 10 mm, at 23 cm from the ground. The machine does not intend to limit its image of a Swiss army knife for that matter. Moreover, its electronics reinforces it. The Enduro riding mode is specifically modified for the Rally, the piloted suspension adapts accordingly, the traction control is at the lowest level, the power limit remains at 115 horsepower and the anti-stoppie, wheelie control, ABS on the rear and its cornering function are deactivated.

Another small electronic bonus, the Easy Lift function. The seat of a Multistrada is high. The seat of a Rally is even higher. 870 or 890 mm (the seat is adjustable). Fortunately, the Skyhook electronic suspensions from Marzocchi can minimize the preload of the rear shock absorber to lower the motorcycle; on all V4 S type Multistradas since 2022. Easy Lift goes a little further by opening the hydraulics of the suspensions, so as to reduce the effort to straighten the motorcycle. If this continues, there will soon be a piston that will lift the motorcycle for us… lol.

To clearly show the hierarchical positioning of this Multistrada, Ducati imposes the recent radar system with adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection. The Rally can be conceived according to 3 packs: - Radar, with the adaptive cruise control and detection systems - Adventure Travel & Radar, with the aluminum cases + heated seats - Full Adventure, with all that + an Akrapovic silencer + a carbon fiber front mudguard. Otherwise, as standard, it is an airliner with almost autopilot: 4 power modes, 4 riding modes (Sport / Touring / Urban / Enduro), and ABS is set to level 2, allowing a controlled rear wheel lift to maximize braking performance, while maintaining cornering functionality.

Ducati envisions great epics in this Multistrada V4 Rally definition. It is powerful (very), expensive (also), over-equipped and eager for raids. But let's keep the wheels in the right place. It remains a premium and multi-map SUV...

What do the riding modes say?

Sport: The Sport riding mode is the most performant on asphalt. The Rally delivers its 170 horsepower with a direct and nervous response, managed by a sporty setting of the Skyhook suspension. The intervention of the Ducati Traction Control and the Ducati Wheelie Control is reduced to a minimum and the ABS is set to level 2, which allows a controlled rear wheel lift to maximize braking performance, while maintaining cornering functionality.

Touring: The maximum power of the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally remains 170 hp, but the response to the throttle is more gentle and progressive. The level of intervention of the DTC and the DWC is increased for better vehicle control. The ABS is set to level 3, the safest and most prudent thanks to the limitation of rear wheel lift, to the optimization of the combined braking and to the active Cornering function. The suspension setting is designed for long journeys and offers maximum comfort for the rider and passenger.

Urban: The power is reduced to 115 hp with a particularly softened and progressive response, while the suspension setting adapts to the roughness of urban roads with their bumps, holes and manholes, managing changes in surface conditions. The DTC and the DWC go to a very high level of intervention. The ABS is set to level 3.

Enduro: Enduro mode allows the Multistrada V4 Rally to maximize its off-road potential, assisted by the 19-inch front wheel, by the ergonomics specially designed for standing riding (even more evolved compared to the Multistrada V4) and by the greater ground clearance offered by the suspension. The Enduro riding mode limits engine power to 115 hp with a dedicated engine mode, characterized by a more dynamic and direct response than that, of equal power, dedicated to Urban Mode. The Enduro mode also specifically adjusts the DSS Evolution suspensions for off-road riding, indicating the selected load mode with a specific icon, represented by an off-road helmet. The DTC and DWC systems go to the lowest level of intervention and the ABS is set to level 1, adapted for off-road use on surfaces with low grip. In this case, the rear wheel lift detection function, the cornering function and the rear wheel intervention are deactivated.
