Overview
Imagine crossing the Balkans in mid-September, heated seat activated, 30 liters of fuel in the tank, and 170 horsepower at your right hand. That’s exactly the brief Ducati wrote for the Multistrada V4 Rally, a maximalist version of a lineage that has never claimed modesty.

In the segment of premium all-terrain adventure bikes, the competition doesn’t sleep. The BMW R 1300 GS Adventure stakes its position with solid recognition, the Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer displays a seductive three-cylinder engine, and the Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports plays the card of quiet endurance. Ducati responds in its own way, that is, with assumed excess. The 1158 cc V4 Granturismo engine, with Twin Pulse configuration, develops 170 horsepower at 10,750 rpm and 121 Nm at 8,750 rpm. These figures belong more to the sporting world than the adventure bike world, and that’s precisely the founding ambiguity of the machine. On open roads, the power is deployed with a frankness that can surprise even experienced riders. The twin-pulse confers a recognizable sonic and vibrational character, far from the clinical neutrality of some Japanese multicylinders. Moreover, rear cylinder deactivation is no longer limited to complete standstill: it operates at low speed to reduce consumption and heat, before bringing all pistons back into play as soon as the pace picks up.
The Rally version distinguishes itself from its cousins with a few targeted structural modifications. The seat height of the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally reaches 870 mm in the low position, 890 mm in the high position. This is not insignificant, and Ducati knows it. The Easy Lift function, coupled with the Skyhook Marzocchi suspension with 200 mm of travel, hydraulically lowers the motorcycle when stationary to facilitate ground contact. Practical for a machine that weighs 260 kg fully fueled. The tank increases to 30 liters, 8 more than the standard V4, which allows stages exceeding 400 km in reasonable driving, provided you don’t abuse the 170 horsepower available. This increase in capacity necessitated a partial redesign of the front: raised screen, redesigned deflectors, improved passenger protection. The passenger, just, also inherits a revised luggage space, wider footrests, and a standard center stand. Ducati thought about two-up travel, which is not always the case in this category.
Regarding off-road performance, ambitions must be tempered. Ground clearance gains 10 mm to reach 230 mm, the tubeless spoke wheels with a 19-inch front wheel orient the geometry towards trails, but 260 kg remain 260 kg. Enduro mode adjusts the electronics accordingly, with 115 horsepower, a lighter traction control, rear ABS and cornering function deactivated. This is sufficient to venture onto compacted forest tracks or rocky paths, but not to compete with a true off-road machine. Those who want deep mud and committed crossings will go elsewhere.

The standard equipment partly justifies the price of the Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally displayed at 28,290 euros. Four riding modes, semi-active suspension, adaptive radar with blind spot detection, bidirectional shifter, 6.5-inch TFT screen, six-axis inertial unit, Brembo brakes with four-piston calipers on 330 mm discs. The aluminum monocoque frame receives a 50 mm inverted fork. Three optional packs allow adding cases, heated grips, Akrapovic exhaust and carbon fiber mudguard according to the intended use. The Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally technical specification is dense, consistent with the high-end positioning of the machine.

The Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally test reveals a motorcycle designed for long asphalt raids with occasional off-road incursions, intended for a rider who wants the best of everything without compromising comfort or performance. It’s not the most accessible or lightest machine in the segment, but it’s probably the most intense. At this price, you expect a thrill, and it is well present.
