Overview
The early 90s shook Italy, with the resurgence of one of its most famous manufacturers. In 1994, a major shock in the sportbike world: Ducati created the 916, and the Superbike tipped. The year before, it was a shock in the roadster sector. In Bologna, the 900 SS’s bicylinder was transplanted into a frame from the 851/888, the design was entrusted to Miguel Galluzzi, and crack, here was THE disruption of the segment: the 900 Mostro; which quickly became Monster. It would then be declined in a constellation of versions. That was 25 years ago.
A quarter of a century that is celebrated with this special series of Monster, glorified in this "25° Anniversario" edition. Ducati took care to create a particularly desirable interpretation of its favorite roadster, worthy of the cult and the envy surrounding this motorcycle. To please, without limits, both in front of the most beautiful squares and on the most twisty roads. First, let's dress her up! The colors of the Italian flag are present, as in the brand's landmark productions (1098 S Tricolore, Panigale V4 Speciale, 1299 Panigale R Final Edition, etc.). A color scheme straight from the 2008 S4Rs Tricolore. It lived like an enchanting powder keg; thus marking the spirits.
The first Monster was not lacking in character, with an engine from another time. Its 904 cm3 L-twin, with 2 valves per cylinder, carburetors, desmodromic system, and air cooling, spat out 73 horsepower. Technological progress changes the game. Based on the 1200 Monster S, this "25th anniversary" - with 1198 cm3, 8 valves, injection, cutting-edge technology, and multiple riding aids – balances 147 horsepower at 9250 rpm. An airplane. The frame is up to par. 48 mm inverted fork, monoshock, and Öhlins steering damper, Brembo brakes with 4-piston M50 calipers and 330 mm discs, aluminum monobrach, dry weight of 184 kilos. Some elements have received a cosmetic improvement for the occasion. The forged Marchesini rims take up the design of those of the Monster R, as well as a gold-colored hue. The latter is also applied to the minimalist trellis frame.
Seductive touches go hand in hand with ornaments of the same vein. Rizoma was brought in for a selection of parts. Which can be found at the handlebar ends, for the fuel cap and the mirrors. Ducati took care to install articulated control levers and an aluminum license plate holder. Carbon fiber is not forgotten, far from it, marking its presence for the front and rear mudguards, the exhaust heat shield, and the trim around the ignition switch. It is still necessary for the small touch to ennoble this limited series. First, the small "25°" embroidery on the stitched seat. Then, the certificate of authenticity affixed to the frame, where its number will be inscribed in the series of 500 copies. The saga here looks back on a past of 325,000 copies, and seems to see the future smiling, patriotically.
