Overview
When Bologna decides to kill a myth to resurrect another, it makes noise. The original Diavel created its own category by grafting a Superbike engine onto a muscle-cruiser silhouette. Ten years of undisputed reign. Then Ducati wiped the slate clean, and the Ducati Diavel V4 was born from this voluntary reset.

The choice of engine is worth noting. Ducati didn’t draw from the Panigale or Streetfighter to power this beast. The engine chosen is the Granturismo, which propels the Multistrada V4, a 90° L-twin architecture with a displacement of 1158 cm3 designed for endurance rather than hysteria. The result on the technical specifications of the Ducati Diavel V4 2024: 168 horsepower at 10750 rpm and 125.5 Nm at 7500 rpm. Six more horsepower than the old twin, but you have to rev 1250 rpm higher in the range to find them. Torque slightly decreases compared to the 1262 cm3, but no one will complain about that on the road. What’s more surprising is the system for deactivating two cylinders at low load. The engine switches to two-cylinder mode to save fuel, and the sound changes with it: first a dull rumble, then the increase in revs awakens the four cylinders and the sound opens up, sharper, more nervous. It’s a detail, but it contributes to the overall experience.
Weight constitutes the other significant argument, if you will. 211 kg dry weight, 13 kg less than the Diavel 1260 S. Five kilos shaved from the engine, eight from the structure. This aluminum monocoque frame, which replaces the much-loved tubular trellis, carries the load between the 50 mm inverted fork and the swingarm. The suspensions are fully adjustable; the rear shock gains 15 mm of additional travel compared to the previous generation. Öhlins would have been expected at €27,790, but you get Sachs. It’s not shameful, but the comment is warranted. In terms of braking, four-piston Brembo calipers bite down on two 330 mm discs at the front; the feel is sharp, close to a hypersport, with the added mass to manage. 0 to 100 km/h would be dispatched in less than three seconds according to the manufacturer’s data.

The silhouette of the Ducati Diavel V4 2023, already presented, is carried over for 2024 and doesn’t seek to seduce everyone. It provokes. The 240 mm rear tire, the inverted double C headlights, the exhaust outlets that outline the architecture of the four-cylinder engine, the honeycomb-shaped rear lights integrated into the rear fender. The V4 is naked, visible, exposed like a piece of industrial jewelry. The ergonomics lean towards comfort without betraying the character of the machine: 790 mm seat height, handlebars 20 mm closer than the previous version, retractable footpegs, and a wide seat that deceives its passenger about its true road ambitions.

On the electronics front, the list is long. Four riding modes including a Wet mode, lean-angle sensitive traction control and ABS, anti-slip, wheelie control, launch control, bidirectional quickshifter, cruise control. The five-inch screen centralizes smartphone connectivity, navigation, call and music management. For Ducati Diavel V4 accessory enthusiasts, the electronic platform opens up wide possibilities for personalization. This Diavel targets an experienced rider, not a beginner, someone who knows what they want and has the budget to pay for it. Because €27,790 is the price of a motorcycle that has no direct competitor capable of challenging it on this specific terrain. The Kawasaki Z H2 SE or the Yamaha MT-10 play in a different league. In this high-performance muscle-cruiser segment, the Ducati Diavel V4 remains alone at the table.
