Overview

Since 2009, the Sport has doubled its number of valves and displays a clear improvement in its engine's breath. A bit more torque and especially 105 horsepower obtained at 7,000 rpm. Its engine, derived from the Griso 8V and Stelvio, offers a slightly different behavior compared to these, as the intake and exhaust are different. Alas, some elements disappear: goodbye to the wavy brake discs and the carbon silencer – the 1200 Sport adopts a new, stylish aluminum silencer with fins at the tip. A few cosmetic touches are included, such as the transparent rear light, the black finish on the fork tubes, and the monobrach. The handlebar takes the opportunity to rise a bit.

In Mandello, we like the sporty roadster, but with a very personal definition. On one side of the road, we find these streetfighter wildlings, living on aggression and fury. On the other, we move with dignity without raising our voices too much. It is this sporty polo Lacoste side and gentlemanly charm that defines the Guzzi 1200 Sport. Without regaining the muscularity of the old Centauro, this bourgeois roadster defends its fiefdom with its large and fat transverse twin derived from the 1200 Norge and its Breva cycle parts.

Less bestial than the Griso, this machine with a big heart likes to reveal its power in the mid-range, with its typical, muffled, deep hammering, with a mouthfeel that no multi-valve boiler can offer with such ease. It's like a Pullman train! But if you are a throttle junkie who likes to see a needle go wild in the five-digit zone, you will find in the Italian twin a lack of responsiveness contrasting singularly with the machine's designation. The riding position is biased forward, justifying a more dynamic ride than with a Breva. Playful, the 1200 Sport still demands a lot of respect – its 240 kg dry weight requiring you to take care of the riding.

Charming with its vibrations and characterful engine behavior, the 1200 Sport is equipped with a few elements that further enhance its already pleasing design, such as the sport windscreen or the small seat cover. The very complete dashboard is superb, the seat is comfortable, and the monobrach will exempt you from the chain greasing chore.

With this motorcycle, Guzzi claims a version of sport steeped in traditionalism. Beautiful and luscious, it is nevertheless aimed at connoisseurs. There is no question of going to tickle a Z 1000 or a Tuono cousin, the roadster with the eagle emblem is not made for that. It is not fashionable and that's a good thing, because we would not appreciate it if it were. When you are born Guzzi, you must respect certain codes.
