Overview
Where did the great English bike go? We see legions of Street Triples, agile and lively, but the Speed, the real one, the one that hits the 1200, is discreet. A rarity, almost a ghost. Is this a sign of a lost model, a positioning too vague in a fierce market? Yet, let's remember: Triumph was visionary in launching this muscular roadster, long before the Germans and Italians jumped on the bandwagon. The idea was brilliant: a charismatic triple engine, a precise chassis, a character less aseptic than a Japanese bike and less demanding than a pure sportbike. A motorcycle to do everything, and do it well.

The 2025 model year brings its update, but it is subtle, almost too much. Three horsepower more, three small Newton-meters gained, bringing the total to 183 horsepower and 128 Nm. Let's be frank, on the road, the difference will be imperceptible. What matters is that the 1160 cm³ three-cylinder remains a marvel of liveliness and sound, now dressed with a beautiful Akrapovic as standard. But facing the competition, the numbers speak for themselves. It is less brutal than the Ducati Streetfighter V4, more characterful than a BMW S1000R, but less extreme than the M1000R. Its weight of 199 kg in running order is honest, without being an exploit. It is in the "neither-nor" strategy that the Speed Triple RS nestles, and it is perhaps its downfall.
The real debate crystallizes around the price and equipment. At 19,995 euros, it is no longer a reasonable option, but a choice of enthusiast. For this price, Triumph deploys heavy artillery: the semi-active Öhlins Smart EC 3.0 suspension, an electronic package of dizzying complexity with wheelie control, anti-stall, slip brake in track mode, and five riding modes. The Brembo Stylema braking and Pirelli Supercorsa SP V3 tires are up to the task. You get the impression of riding a rolling computer, where every parameter is adjustable to the millimeter. Is this still riding or programming?

So, for whom does this English bike run? Clearly not for a beginner, nor for the Sunday touring rider. It targets the connoisseur, the triple aesthete, the one who prefers the progressive torque curve and the hoarse sound to the brute dump of a V4. It is a motorcycle for initiates, demanding financially, but which in return offers a feeling of total control and a unique mechanical character. Its flaw? A design that lacks bite, too close to its little sister, and a price that borders on indecency. But if you are looking for a hypersport roadster with a soul, an engine with an enchanting conversation and a haute couture chassis, the Speed Triple RS remains an enchanting proposition, despite everything. A motorcycle that is justified more by the heart than by the head.
