Overview
When Ducati decides to push the boundaries even further on an already extreme machine, the result bears a name: Ducati Diavel Carbon. The 2016 version is not a simple cosmetic refresh. It’s a statement of intent, dark and unapologetic, that turns its back on the brand’s historic red to plunge into an almost absolute black. The trellis steel tubular frame, the flanks, the stripes: everything yields to this new shadowy identity. Only the carbon fiber, on the front mudguard, the fuel tank, and the seat cowl, breaks this monochrome with its changing reflections. A radical, consistent aesthetic choice that gives this 2016 Ducati Diavel Carbon a character that its power-cruiser competitors struggle to approach.

The chassis is good, but what makes the sidewalks vibrate beneath the wheels of this monster is the 1198 cc Testastretta 11° bicylinder. With a bore of 106 mm and a stroke of 67.9 mm, this V2 with four valves per cylinder develops 162 horsepower at 9,250 rpm and 130.5 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm. Figures that speak to those who understand what it means to inherit directly from the Superbike DNA. The Ducati Diavel Carbon 1200 doesn’t play in the yard of classic roadsters; it invents its own category, somewhere between the American muscle and the Italian sportbike. Facing a BMW S 1000 R or a Yamaha MT-10, the Diavel doesn’t seek to compete on the track. It imposes another register, a more stylized brutality, slower to express itself, but profoundly impressive when the 6 gearbox ratios chain together in a straight line towards the announced 250 km/h.
What justifies the Carbon moniker and the displayed price of 21,790 euros are the forged aluminum Marchesini wheels. These super-lightweight wheels, black with their metallic reflections, lighten the whole by 2.5 kilos compared to a standard version. On a machine that weighs 205 kg dry and 234 kg fully fueled, every gram subtracted from the unsprung masses counts. The 50 mm DLC-treated Marzocchi inverted fork and the remote preload Sachs monoshock complete a suspension equipment that takes its 770 mm seat height seriously. The 240 mm rear tire reminds you that the Ducati Diavel Carbon edition doesn’t claim to be a gymnast but a large-size animal that moves with surprising fluidity.
The 2016 evolution also brings details that make a difference in the long term. The exhausts receive a Zircotec ceramic coating that reduces radiated heat and refines the visual signature. The redesigned front light, encircled by a half-ring of daytime LEDs, modernizes a face that didn’t need rejuvenation. The raised handlebar improves road use comfort, recalling that the Diavel Carbon first targets tall riders who enjoy urban poses and rides on open roads, not track racers seeking millisecond sensations. Dual cylinder ignition refines combustion and the character of low-speed acceleration.
Remains the question of positioning. The used Ducati Diavel Carbon is negotiated on a still active secondary market, which testifies to the certain loyalty of its owners. New, 21,790 euros places this machine in a premium segment where the typical buyer knows exactly what he wants: a rare, demanding object, tailored for those who seek neither the lightness of a sporty roadster nor the passivity of an American cruiser. The Ducati Diavel Carbon technical specifications only tell part of the story. The rest is discovered on the road, with this V2 that speaks loudly and a character that leaves no one indifferent.
