Overview
When Bologna decides to cross a roadster with a cruiser, the result isn’t a compromise; it’s the Diavel. The Ducati Diavel 1260 (2020) pushes this logic further than any previous version, replacing the original 1198 Testastretta with a 1262 cm3 engine with variable valve timing inherited from the DVT family. Two 90-degree V-twins, a lengthened piston stroke of 71.5 mm, elliptical 56 mm injection bodies, and a compression ratio increased to 13:1. The raw result: 159 hp at 9500 rpm and 129.5 Nm at 7500 rpm. On paper, this is less potent than the 162 hp of yesteryear, but comparing these figures without considering the change in measurement protocol introduced in 2017 at Ducati would be a beginner’s mistake. This engine is more civilized in the city, more consistent at intermediate revs, and perfectly capable of ripping your eyes out as soon as the needle climbs.

The Ducati Diavel 1260 (2020) price starts at 20,790 euros for the base version, and the gap with the S version justifies a real purchase consideration. The S features Öhlins fully adjustable suspension, Brembo M50 calipers, a bidirectional quickshifter, and machined wheels, whereas the standard version makes do with 50 mm adjustable inverted forks and M4.32 radial calipers around 320 mm discs. Both brake strongly, both hold the road. But if you’re considering Ducati Diavel 1260 accessories to push the mechanics to their limits, you might as well start with the right trim level. For enthusiasts of the Ducati Diavel 1260 used, the secondary market already offers good opportunities for these model years, provided maintenance is checked: the major service is at 15,000 km, and valve clearance adjustment is at 30,000.
The chassis has undergone a structural logic overhaul. The steel tubular trellis frame no longer runs the entire length of the machine; it stops halfway and delegates rigidity to the cylinders themselves, exactly as on the XDiavel. The aluminum swingarm anchors directly to the engine block via two forged plates. The wheelbase reaches 1600 mm, ten millimeters longer than before, which doesn't prevent the Diavel from pointing at a 41-degree angle. This is less than the Monster 1200, which goes down to 50, but well above the Harley-Davidson FXDR 114, which peaks at 32. For a machine shod with a 240/45-ZR17 rear tire, this is a performance that disarms skeptics. The reduced rake of 120 mm and the recessed steering head angle of 27 degrees contribute to this liveliness that still surprises, even in 2020.
The electronic equipment follows the level expected in this price segment. A six-axis inertial unit pilots the cornering ABS, traction control, and wheelie control with precision that leaves a real margin of expression for the rider without letting them fall. Three riding modes, Sport, Touring, and Urban, a low-speed assist, cruise control, a 3.5-inch TFT screen with four display modes, and full LED lighting complete the dashboard. This is all very expected at this price, but everything is well integrated, and ergonomics do not sacrifice readability to aesthetics.
The audience for the Ducati Diavel 1260 is not the same as that of a Kawasaki Z H2 or a BMW R 1250 R. It seeks something less functional and more status-oriented, a machine to look at as much as to ride, with enough mechanical character not to pass for a mere decoration. The seat height at 780 mm and the 244 kg when full destine it for average or tall builds, not very suitable for beginners despite generous riding aids. For the experienced rider who wants to ride in the city without brooding, string together departmental roads on the weekend, and park something beautiful in their garage, the Ducati Diavel 1260 technical specifications correspond exactly to this promise, provided you accept the price of Italianness.
