Overview
Can a motorcycle be too honest? At a time when roadsters are starting to adorn themselves with electronics and aggressive lines, the 2009 Suzuki Bandit 1250S poses this question with an almost disconcerting naiveté. It does not seek to impress with a futuristic design or record-breaking power; it simply presents itself, with its visible steel tubular frame and its 1255 cc inline four-cylinder engine. It is a machine that speaks of utility, simplicity, and a raw efficiency that has made its reputation for years.

Beneath this meticulous worker's look lies the heart of a large tractor. The engine, with its 98 horsepower at 7500 rpm and, above all, its torque of 108 Nm available from 3700 rpm, is the main argument. You don't need to seek it out, it's there as soon as you twist the wrist. This generosity at low rpm makes the Bandit an ideal companion for everyday use or long journeys, where driving ease takes precedence over top speeds. It swallows highways and country roads with the same placid ease, its 19-liter tank allowing it to cover respectable distances. At a top speed of 240 km/h, it is not the fastest in its category, but it reaches this limit without drama, without exhausting you.
The 2009 limited edition, with its 50 copies in monochrome white and titanium rims, is an aesthetic attempt to brighten up this robustness. But deep down, it changes nothing about the essence of the machine. The weight, 250 kg fully fueled, is palpable, especially when stationary or in tight turns. The suspension, efficient but basic, and the disc brakes (with ABS on this series) do the job without frills. It is a motorcycle that asks you to participate, to understand its physical limitations, rather than to flatter you with electronic aids. The seat height of 785 mm is accessible, but this Bandit is mainly aimed at a touring rider or daily user who values reliability and versatility over thrills.
Compared to competitors such as the Yamaha FZ1 or the Honda CB1000R of the time, the Bandit 1250S plays on a different ground. It does not have the sporty character of the former, nor the modernized style of the latter. Its asset, its sledgehammer argument, is its price: less than 9000 euros. For this amount, you get a large touring roadster, capable of almost everything, with solid-as-a-rock mechanics. The price/performance ratio is objectively unbeatable. It is the motorcycle of common sense, of those who want a mount without surprises, capable of transporting their owner and their luggage for thousands of kilometers without asking for excessive attention.
Ultimately, the Suzuki Bandit 1250S is not a motorcycle that provokes instant admiration. It provokes respect, over time. It is the perfect tool for those who see the motorcycle as a companion for travel and work, rather than an object of performance. It does not lie to you, it does not promise you extreme sensations. It promises to always be there, with its burly torque and its indestructible frame, ready for the next mission, whatever it may be. This is perhaps its greatest quality, and also what makes it a little anachronistic in a world that is always looking for more spectacle.
