Overview
Being born with the GS badge without being the R 1250 GS means carrying a crushing legacy on mid-size shoulders. The BMW F 750 GS has long played this ungrateful role of sensible little sister, sandwiched between the Bavarian icon with its large boxer twin and its own muscular sibling, the F 850 GS. However, since the 2018 overhaul that saw the F 700 GS evolve into the F 750 GS, the machine has found its path. And this path does not run through muddy trails.

The engine is at the heart of the renewal. The parallel twin increases to 853 real cm3, with bore and stroke increased to 84 x 77 mm, with a 270-degree crankshaft that radically changes the sonic and vibrational character of the whole. This same principle is found on the Yamaha MT-07, and the effect is similar: an engine that lives, that pulses, that makes you want to open the throttle rather than endure a numbing purr. The 77 horsepower arrives at 7,500 rpm, the torque of 83 Nm peaks at 6,000 rpm, and two balance shafts chase away the parasitic vibrations that annoyed users of the previous generation. On the road, the 2019 BMW F 750 GS proves supple in the city, frank on the highway, with a top speed announced at 190 km/h. The fuel consumption of 4.1 L/100 km combined with the 15 liters of the tank offers an autonomy close to 350 kilometers, which is not negligible for a trail of this size.
The chassis has also been seriously revised. The steel double-tube frame replaces the old tubular structure to gain rigidity, while the cast aluminum swingarm follows the same logic. The 41 mm telescopic fork is not inverted, and its 151 mm travel confirms the positioning of the machine without ambiguity: the BMW F 750 GS is a road trail, not a green track machine. Those who dream of Pyrenean rock gardens will look to the F 850 GS, with its inverted fork and 21-inch front wheel. Here, the 19-inch front tire shod in 110/80 and the 17-inch rear tire in 150/70 clearly state that asphalt is the natural playground. At 224 kg when fully fueled for a seat at 815 mm, the machine is not light, but it remains accessible. This is indeed one of its major assets for the A2 license, a category to which it is eligible with restriction.
The on-board electronics included as standard are honest for the displayed price of 9,950 euros: two riding modes Rain and Road, the ASC traction control, ABS, and since 2019 the dynamic brake light. BMW here respects its tradition of correct standard equipment, accompanied by a long list of options that can quickly make the bill climb. The 6.5-inch color TFT screen, the ESA electronic adjustment suspension, the ABS Pro active in curves, the quickshifter or even the Pro modes with Enduro and Dynamic are part of these extras that transform a decent motorcycle into a well-equipped machine. On the BMW F 750 GS used market, these packs often make the difference between two examples at the same mileage. Check the options on the purchase order before buying.
The 2019 BMW F 750 GS is aimed at motorcyclists who want the adventure posture and the comfort of the high riding position without committing to serious off-road practice. It will suit the young A2 license holder looking for an evolving motorcycle, the urban daily commute enhanced with weekend outings, the touring rider who has not yet crossed the threshold of the large displacement. The new price remains within a reasonable range for the range, and examples from the 2019, 2020, 2021 or 2022 model years often offer good value for money on the secondary market. It is not the most spectacular GS in the Bavarian catalog, but it is perhaps the most sensible for 80% of real uses.
