Overview

Is it possible for a motorcycle to be too Italian? When Benelli unveiled the TnT Sport in 2005, it answered that question with a resounding yes, and with a conviction that borders on exaggeration. This is far from understated and refined roadsters. This Sport version is an aesthetic declaration of war, with its trellis frame painted a violent, almost bloody red, which seems to come from a custom shop rather than a production line. It’s pure mechanical theater, and it works.

Benelli TnT Sport

The heart of the machine remains the inline three-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1130 cm3, an engine that has never suffered from shyness. With 137 horsepower delivered at 9250 rpm and a torque of nearly 118 Nm, the power is there, raw and available. But the real novelty lies in the ability to choose between two engine maps, a simple decision that changes everything: do you want the power to arrive with a punch, or with a more linear progression? It’s a grown-up game, a way to personalize the relationship with the machine.

The difference is mainly felt in agility. With a weight announced at 213 kg fully fueled, it’s not the lightest in its category, but Benelli has worked on the details. The forged OZ rims, from the Tornado RS, are a massive gain in terms of unsprung mass. The 50 mm Marzocchi inverted fork is fully adjustable, and the Brembo braking system, with its radial calipers on 320 mm discs, offers impeccable power and feel. On the road, this translates to a motorcycle that throws itself into corners with surprising fervor, stable and precise despite its imposing look.

Compared to its contemporaries, such as some more rational Japanese roadsters or even more classic Italian motorcycles, the TnT Sport positions itself as an object of passion, not reason. Its price of 15995 euros at the time was a serious argument, but here you were buying an experience, a character. It clearly targets the rider who is looking for more than just a means of transportation: a road companion with an explosive temperament, capable of turning a mundane journey into a small epic.

Its major flaw? Perhaps this very eccentricity that makes its strength. The very marked design, the red of the frame, the overall theatricality can be tiring or seem dated. But for those who accept the game, the TnT Sport remains a thrilling motorcycle, a machine that doesn’t hide and demands to be ridden with the same commitment it shows. They don’t make them like that anymore, and that’s perhaps why it still retains, today, this aura of an Italian roadster, without filter or compromise.
