Overview

The 302 R is still listed in the Benelli Italy catalog. For France, things seem more complicated. Following the era of the large Tornado models, with three-cylinder 900s and then 1130s, the sport is now more modest at the Sino-Italian manufacturer. But this Benelli no longer resembles the transalpine country. Nor is it flamboyant! This renaissance is achieved via a 300 cm3 twin-cylinder engine. With 38 horsepower, the memory falls from its pedestal. It is therefore not necessary to see this machine as the descendant of the 900/1130 Tornados, but as a Sino-strategic incursion into the medium-cylinder sector with a sporty look. The clan of YZF-R3, RC 390, Ninja 400 and GSX 250 R; undervalued and active with us, but a mass market in emerging countries.

This 302 R is not unattractive. Even flattering with its inverted fork, its long silhouette, its vibrant colors and its petal discs. It easily makes us forget that it shares the mechanics of the BN 302 roadster. The sporty illusion may still appeal to many new license holders, the power of its twin being well below the requirements of the A2 license. Built around a steel trellis frame and a different swingarm than the BN, the motorcycle is equipped with 2 front brake discs pinched by axial-mounted 4-piston calipers, a 240 mm rear disc, fine 110 and 150 mm wheels, a 14-liter tank, and ABS. With 180 kilograms dry weight and a handful of horsepower less than its rivals, this 302 R will inspire a desire to play but will struggle to show vindictiveness against them. A concept to discover, keeping in mind that Benelli motorcycles are now Chinese, only the badge retains the colors of the brand.
