Overview

The fever escapes in a metallic rasp, almost palpable. A strained ear or a furtive glance reveals the sulfur of a brawl submitted only to the starter’s impatience. In an instant, the V4 can howl its rage and subject the new Tuono to desire as to madness. You want a fight? You’re going to get sport! The inverse is available on demand with this new chapter of Aprilia’s hyper-roadster.

The Tuono has always shaken the world in which it exists. A provocateur of emotions seconded by a high-performance chassis. It surprised even more with the previous generation by adopting a (slightly) more touring-oriented philosophy. A misstep quickly eclipsed when you discover today’s more menacing profile.

Around its mischievous eyes, the beast has redesigned its fork head, adopting a bubble descending to the headlight quills but completely abandoning its former touring profile. Singular mustaches grow beneath its nose, aerodynamically influenced by the winglet trend. They are not there for show; more to produce 2.5 kg of downforce at 250 km/h. New flanks and more powerful fans are tasked with better dissipating heat and diverting it from the legs.

The 1100 Tuono V4 says goodbye to the belly pan, the almost GT-sport passenger seat, the retention hoop... and the rear light; their functions are taken over by the turn signals, now multi-task. The little friendly side no longer exists on this Tuono; the pleasure functions are transferred to the range of options; just like larger risers to raise the handlebar. A touch of black on the frame to close the design evolutions and it is ready to make a statement.

The V4 has gained watts again. In the clan of hyperfighters, that is the norm as it is destiny. To satisfy its own dictates of muscle building, it takes a little displacement, going from 1077 to 1099 cm3 – the same transition as the hypersport sister when the 2020 version ceded to an even more furious engine. A larger 52 mm injection, a new exhaust, rage in the gut, and 5 horsepower gained to reach 180 units at 13,800 rpm. Hardcore drugs that this engine, seeking a quarrel with the Triumph 1200 Speed Triple and the KTM 1390 SuperDuke. Worthy adversaries. The torque remains unchanged, except that the 12.3 mkg maximum is located a little higher, at 9,600 rpm. Aprilia did not want to push its engine towards the high spheres where the M 1000 R Streetfighter V4 gravitates. The sauce is already sufficiently boiling; and the cycle part allows to go very far in the domain of muscular piloting.

Its reinforced aluminum frame and swingarm remain unchanged, as do the fully adjustable Sachs suspensions. Enough to already do a good job. Amateurs of refined damping will turn to the Factory version, equipped with semi-active Öhlins. Strangely, the brake calipers are not Hypure (unlike the RSV4) nor Stylema but good old Brembo M50. They are no less excellent, with a feeling and a formidable power; but they are starting to date. Aprilia has accustomed us to staying as close as possible to technological advancements. This is verified even more at the electronic level. Although...

Aprilia has changed its approach regarding its electronic progeny. Abundance is still the order of the day but in progressive doses. This means that the Tuono V4 is equipped with certain assists and offers more advanced ones as options.

Initially, the bike includes an inertial unit, new adaptive/predictive components, 3 Riding Modes, cornering ABS, and the following modules in its APRC:

It is comprehensive but something is missing. The list seems short for a fire-breathing machine of this caliber. Digging a little, it appears that this Tuono V4 has lost elements since the previous model: cruise control, Launch Control, speed limiter in the pits, and 3 other Riding Modes. But...

In reality, all of this has been moved to additional packs. If the standard equipment is sufficient for you, you can stop there. However, if you want to go further in the electronic management of your piloting, you no longer even need to go to the dealer. The firm of Noale has created its "store via app" to upgrade the bike remotely.

It starts with the “Track Pack,” unlocking:

Next, there is the “Comfort Pack,” with turn signals and ACC cruise control.

Other baskets exist but are reserved for the Factory. We will talk about them with her. This may be surprising but the manufacturer's approach is not trivial. There are frequent users who complain about an overdose of electronics. Here, the layer is limited and everyone adds to their convenience. If the price is also adapted accordingly, curiosity could quickly turn into interest.

Still more voracious, the Aprilia 1100 Tuono V4 takes a step forward in the race for power as well as a leap on the electronic side. It gives more choice to its rider, seeming to accompany him in his evolution. But do not doubt it, it only thinks of one thing: to burn up the road with the tension of a bow.
