Overview
Imagine a machine that has swallowed a Panigale V4 while keeping its adventure boots. An improbable chimera, a desirable object for those who refuse to choose between circuit fury and the call of the distant road. Ducati, with this Multistrada V4 RS, doesn’t offer a simple evolution, but rather a declaration of war on genre limitations. This is far from a trail bike simply spiced up; we’re talking about radical hybridization.

The secret lies beneath the fuel tank. Exit the flexible, touring-friendly Granturismo V4, making way for the heart of the brand’s most extreme models: the Stradale. This 1103 cm3 V4, Twin Pulse timing, is a pure weapon. Its 180 horsepower at 12,250 rpm tells only part of the story. It’s its character, nervous, almost febrile, that changes everything. The 118 Nm of torque arrives high, very high, at 9500 rpm, demanding that the engine be kept in a state of excitement. A driving philosophy borrowed directly from the track, made credible by a monocoque aluminum frame and a stated wet weight of 225 kg.
To tame this fury, Ducati has deployed heavy electronic artillery. The DVO system, a true predictive brain, analyzes the motorcycle as if it were bristling with sensors. It anticipates load transfers to govern anti-slip, anti-wheelie, or coupled braking with surgical precision. The Öhlins EC suspensions, the 48 mm fork, and the TTX36 mono-shock are, of course, electronically controlled, offering 170 mm of travel but with the stiffness and responsiveness of a sportbike. Faced with a BMW M 1000 XR, more oriented towards brute and linear performance, Ducati plays the card of agility and the liveliness of a true race machine dressed as an adventure bike.

The catalog of prestigious parts is dizzying. Titanium Akrapovic exhaust, Brembo Stylema calipers biting 330 mm discs, forged Marchesini rims, single-sided swingarm… The list resembles that of a prepared Superbike. Even the rear fairing is specific. Yet, in a surprising mix of genres, Ducati has added a top-case loop, a detail that is almost surreal on such a beast. But that is precisely its gamble: to be capable of everything, from touring to lap times on the circuit. A public of demanding touring riders and dilettante track enthusiasts is targeted, those for whom comfort is not a dirty word but who shudder at the idea of a tight turn.

The price, however, is a shock. At nearly 38,500 euros, we reach new heights. And you will have to add heated grips, an option on a machine at this price, which is perplexing. Maintenance will also be more demanding, with major servicing every 30,000 km. But can we still talk about rationality in the face of such an object? The Multistrada V4 RS is not a compromise motorcycle; it is a passion motorcycle. It demands from the rider, it rewards him with pure sensations, and it fully embraces its schizophrenic duality. It will not convince those seeking quiet efficiency, but it will enchant those who dream of a Panigale that can swallow broken-up national roads. A masterpiece of complexity and character, for better or worse.
