Overview
Sport-touring continues to offer beautiful machines, fighting for survival against the all-powerful adventure bikes. In the reduced, almost confidential sector of fast tourers, the Kawasaki Ninja SX is the one that stands out the most.
Initially Z 1000 SX, then Ninja 1000 SX, it now presents itself as a 1100, with a more generous engine in displacement, torque, and availability; but less in horsepower. For the first time, it is available in a more upscale version. Kawa has a habit of naming this type of version SE.
Enthusiasts will find their account. The first distinctive feature is the style. The Special Edition comes in stunning emerald hues. The other color scheme is very dark, just like that of the standard version.
Let's move on to the most interesting aspects. As escapades promise to be on an energetic rhythm, it is better to ensure adequate dynamism and handling. The Ninja 1100 SX SE improves its rigidity with Brembo M432 brake calipers, aviation hoses, and a master cylinder also badged with the Italian manufacturer. Then, the rear end smiles with the installation of an Öhlins S46 shock absorber. The presence of the Swedish equipment manufacturer is always a guarantee of increased road qualities.
The SE also thinks about the first chills of cold by adding heated grips as standard. All of this complements the elements that the Ninja has added when taking its eleven-hundred denomination. Namely, a USB-C socket on the handlebars, shifter activation from 1500 rpm, the evolution of the Rideology app (with voice command), a larger rear brake disc, Bridge’ S23 replacing the S22, the two latest gears lengthened and 56 cm3 more in its 4-cylinder engine.
The evolution of this engine brings surprising results. More watts in the Versys 1100, less in the Ninja. As a result, the two protagonists now develop almost the same power each. 135 on the adventure bike, 136 on the sport-GT. The extra cubic capacity, optimized intake, and a few tweaks pushed the torque by 0.2 mkg, with the priority objective of boosting it across the entire rev range.
Between two refueling stops, the rider will have the pleasure of appreciating the fast curves then the on-board equipment consisting of an adjustable bubble (4 positions), a cruise control, a 4.3-inch TFT screen, attachment points for cases, ABS cornering, traction control, the 4 Riding Modes, a slipper clutch, electronic cornering management KCMF. Unlike other SE models such as the Z H2, the Versys or the H2 SX, the Ninja does not benefit from semi-active suspension.
SE or not? A dose of premium extra or not? With its duo of Ninja 1100 SX, Kawasaki offers a roadster road-going, seductive, doubled by a slightly more refined version. The name of some equipment manufacturers is sometimes enough to attract more sympathy.
