Overview

When a motorcycle carries the blood of an RSV4 in its veins and its fairing is removed, what remains? A wild beast or a domesticated animal? The Aprilia Tuono V4 2022 answers this question with disconcerting frankness: both, depending on the version chosen. Noale opted to segment its hyper-naked into two distinct personalities, the standard and the Factory, rather than seeking a lukewarm compromise that would satisfy no one. It's a smart business decision, but above all, it's an honest one.

Aprilia Tuono V4

The standard version approaches its mission with a genuine road focus. The high fairing, the generous saddle, the passenger footrests integrated from the design: this Tuono accepts a passenger without treating them like an intruder on a luggage rack. For a 175-horsepower naked at 11,350 rpm, this is an unusual posture. The Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 has always been associated with solitary and vindictive use; this 2022 version changes register without denying its temperament. The Factory, on the other hand, remains true to its fundamentals: short fairing, lowered handlebars, symbolic rear seat. Two motorcycles in a family, each consistent with its positioning. It would be wrong to reproach one for being too sensible if that is precisely what it seeks.

Under the 17.9-liter tank, the 1,077 cm3 V4 has not changed in nature. Its lightweight bucket valves, its connecting rods and crankshaft that spin to 13,800 rpm, its management entrusted to a Magneti-Marelli 11MP unit four times more powerful than the previous generation: all this produces 121 Nm at 9,000 rpm and a maximum declared power at 11,350 rpm. Euro 5 compliance is ensured by a lightweight exhaust with a reinforced catalyst, without measurable loss on the final figures. The APRC pack frames all this with a dozen active systems, including traction control on 8 levels, a wheelie control on 5, an engine braking control with 3 settings and cornering ABS. Six riding modes in total, three road-oriented, three track-oriented including two customizable. For a real-world Aprilia Tuono V4 test, this electronic arsenal represents a real active safety, not a marketing gimmick.

Aprilia Tuono V4

The double perimeter aluminum chassis inherited from the RSV4 imposes its structural authority, supported by fully adjustable Sachs suspensions, a 43 mm inverted fork and a mono-shock. The new swingarm, simplified from 7 to 3 welded pieces, displays a transverse stiffness increase of 48%, a figure directly from superbike development. Brembo 4-piston calipers on 330 mm stainless steel discs ensure a bite that deserves respect, and moderation in initial use. The full weight of 209 kg remains reasonable in this category, compared to a KTM 1290 Super Duke R or a BMW M 1000 R that play in the same register of controlled brutality.

Aprilia Tuono V4

The Aprilia Tuono V4 price of 16,299 euros positions the standard in the upper echelons of sporty naked bikes, without reaching the tariff peaks of certain German competitors. It're a motorcycle for experienced riders who want a versatile machine without sacrificing pure pleasure, not for those seeking their first large-displacement bike. The market for used Aprilia Tuono V4 remains active precisely because previous generations have built a solid reputation; this 2022 version consolidates this heritage by adding a practical dimension that no one really expected. The 5-inch TFT screen, MIA application compatibility, directional cornering lights: finishing details finally join the mechanical level. It was time.
