Overview
When Aprilia builds a family, it doesn’t do things halfway. The V4 1100 reigns supreme at the top, the 660 shakes up the mid-size roadsters, and the 125 plays the role of accessible elder, the one who opens the door to the clan for those starting with an A1 license. This 2024 version of the Aprilia Tuono 125 doesn't reinvent the wheel, but refines what already existed, with enough seriousness to warrant attention.

Regarding the bodywork, Noale clearly drew from the RS and Tuono 660 catalogs to reshape the face of the little roadster. The refined optics integrate the turn signals, everything functions with LED lighting, and the result is noticeably more incisive than the previous generation. The engine guard is new, the frame, engine, footrests, and lower fork are painted black. It’s not a revolution, but it’s consistent with the visual identity of a range that has found its style.
The work is more interesting underneath the engine guard. The law caps power at 15 horsepower, 11 kW at 10,000 rpm, and nothing can be done about it. However, Aprilia has worked on the engine to improve how those 15 horsepower are delivered. New Magneti-Marelli ECU, reworked camshafts, iridium spark plug, redesigned combustion chamber, revised intake and exhaust ducts, new air filter: the 124 cc single-cylinder gains responsiveness, and the torque of 11.2 Nm peaks earlier. The rear sprocket goes to 58 teeth to lengthen the final drive and make the throttle more progressive. A quickshifter remains available as an option for those who want to play racers on the track. Euro5 compliance is achieved via a catalytic converter housed in the engine guard, without compromising the top speed of 120 km/h.

The chassis, for its part, didn’t have much to prove. The double perimeter aluminum frame, the 40 mm inverted fork, the 300 mm petal front disc with its radial four-piston caliper, the asymmetrical aluminum swingarm: the previous generation already had all of that. For 2024, the rear tire gains 10 mm and goes to 140/70-17, Michelin tires replace the previous fitment, and Bosch ABS makes its appearance. The 810 mm seat remains within acceptable standards for an average build. The advertised wet weight is 144 kg, which remains honest in this category.

At €5,099, the Aprilia Tuono 125 clearly positions itself as a premium machine for the A1 license. It’s not a budget choice. The Honda CB125R, the KTM Duke 125: they play in the same league, and their technical specifications are solid. The Tuono relies on its big-bike image, on this stylistic consistency with the rest of the family, and on a chassis equipment that few 125s dare to offer. For a young driver or a rider returning to motorcycles, that’s a significant argument. The question remains whether the Aprilia Tuono 125’s price is justified on a daily basis compared to more affordable rivals. The answer depends on what you’re looking for: a tool or a motorcycle in its own right.
