Overview

When Noale decides to respond to the Kawasaki ZX-10R and its 200 horsepower, the response doesn't take long. In 2015, the Aprilia RSV4 RR arrives with a 999.6 cc V4 producing 201 horsepower at 13,000 rpm and 115 Nm of torque at 10,500 rpm, all housed in a chassis that weighs 180 kg dry. Just a single R added to the name, and it’s a completely redesigned machine that emerges from the Italian workshops.

Aprilia RSV4 RR

To gain those 17 extra horsepower from an already high-performance base, the engineers scoured every corner of the engine. Titanium valves, Pankl connecting rods reduced by a total of 400 grams, camshafts shedding another 500 grams, redesigned intake ducts, new injectors, independent management of each variable intake module: a technique directly from World Superbike that no production competitor offers. The engine loses 1.5 kg in the process while gaining power, which is a rare engine-building feat. The result now aligns with the year's benchmarks: Yamaha R1, Ducati 1299, BMW S 1000 RR. At €17,200, the Aprilia RSV4 RR price positions itself in this class without trying to do less.

What truly distinguishes this motorcycle from the peloton is the Factory heritage integrated as standard. Cylinder-specific variable intake, magnesium cases, the perimeter aluminum frame that now allows adjustment of engine position, rake angle, and swingarm pivot: all adjustments that previously belonged to the Aprilia RSV4 RR Factory or special versions, and are now part of the standard equipment. The swingarm has been lengthened by 14 mm to improve traction. Sachs suspensions, fully adjustable, manage the whole with a 120 mm stroke at the front, where some track riders would have preferred Öhlins. That will be for the optional race pack, like the forged rims. An assumed positioning choice: the base version remains accessible, the higher level exists.

On the braking side, Brembo remains in command with its M430 calipers clamping 320 mm discs at the front, backed at the rear by a Brembo double piston on a 220 mm disc. The Bosch 9MP race ABS weighs two kilos and can be adjusted on three levels or completely disabled according to the rider's mood. The Aprilia RSV4 RR APRC pack is standard, and that's where the machine reveals its true face: traction control on 8 levels, wheelie control on 3 settings, quickshifter, launch control with 3 positions, four injection maps including a RACE mode added on this version. The electronics even manage engine braking. Connect your smartphone via the V4-MP kit and you access onboard telemetry, with a system capable, via GPS, of adapting the electronic settings according to the motorcycle's position in a specific corner. On the track, it changes the game.

Who rides this machine? Certainly not someone who is just starting out. The 845 mm seat height, the 18.5-liter tank, the compact dimensions, and the track-oriented ergonomics make it a demanding companion on the open road. Its natural playing field remains the circuit, and that's where it will methodically humiliate machines twice as heavy. As an Aprilia RSV4 RR used, it represents one of the best deals on the hypersport market of the decade, provided you accept its uncompromising character. Those looking for an RSV4 RR 2016, 2017 or a more recent version will find marginal evolutions, as the base laid in 2015 was already solid. The RSV4 RR embodies that rare moment when a manufacturer transforms the World Superbike experience into a production product without too much dilution: brutal in the good moments, precise when needed, and capable of 300 km/h if you have the right circuit.
