Overview

Three hundred units worldwide, seventy for France. When Honda decides to play the exclusivity card with its 2024 CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade SP Carbon Edition, the Japanese manufacturer doesn't do things by halves. Or rather, it does — and that's where the shoe pinches a little.

Honda CBR 1000 RR-R Fireblade SP Carbon Edition

Because this carbon-clad special edition isn't entirely so. Fenders, belly pan, fairing panels, winglets, and tank cover all get the noble fiber treatment, but the front cowl and tail section remain in conventional plastic. A curious choice for a motorcycle priced at 31,999 euros. The gain on the scales? A mere kilogram. It comes in at 200 kg wet, which remains respectable for a 999 cc inline four-cylinder capable of belting out 217.6 horsepower at 14,000 rpm and 112.8 Nm of torque at 12,000 rpm. The 13.6:1 compression ratio and ultra-short 48.5 mm stroke betray an engine designed to scream through the rev range. This Fireblade is simply begging to be wrung out.

The mechanical and chassis foundation remains that of the SP, which already represents the cream of the crop at Honda. The third-generation Öhlins S-EC3.0 semi-active suspension, featuring a 43 mm NPX inverted fork and a TTX36 mono-shock, delivers a level of damping that only the Ducati Panigale V4 SP2 and the BMW M 1000 RR can challenge at this price point. The Brembo Stylema R braking system, with its radially mounted twin 330 mm discs, bites with surgical precision. The aluminum twin-spar frame, the 120/70-17 front and 200/55-17 rear tire fitment, the six-speed gearbox — everything is calibrated for the track, even if the 830 mm seat height and 16.5-liter tank serve as reminders that a round trip to the circuit remains feasible without a fuel tanker in tow.

Where Ducati drowns its limited editions in MotoGP liveries and racing decals, Honda opts for restraint. The exposed carbon gives the machine a dark, technical character without any showboating. A commemorative plaque mounted on the tank cover displays the serial number. For the French market, Honda throws in an accessories package that feels more like a collector's box set than motorcycle equipment: a B.R.M watch in HRC colors with a carbon-effect dial, a seat cowl signed by Johann Zarco, and an engraved case bearing the bike's number, housing both the watch and the key. It flatters the ego — less useful for shaving lap times.

This Carbon Edition is aimed at a clientele of passionate collectors, those who want a cutting-edge sportbike capable of flirting with 300 km/h while knowing it will probably spend more time in a living room than on the Magny-Cours back straight. The hypersport market may be shrinking year after year, but the seventy French units will find buyers without difficulty. At this price and with this rarity, you're no longer just buying a motorcycle. You're buying a ticket into a very exclusive club.
