Overview
When Aprilia decides to transform an already formidable sportbike into a road-homologated competition machine, the result isn't simply an improved version. It's called the Aprilia RSV 1000 R Factory, and the difference with the standard RSV 1000 R is measured less in options than in philosophy. The 60-degree V-twin engine with a displacement of 997.6 cc hasn't been touched, because it didn't need to be: 138 horsepower at 9,500 rpm, 101 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm, a well-spaced six-speed gearbox. This engine is one of the most accomplished twins of its generation, and Aprilia knows it. Where the Factory stands out is in everything around it.

The list of standard equipment would make many custom builds blush. Inverted 43 mm Öhlins fork, Öhlins monoshock, a two-piston steering damper also signed by the Swedish tuner, forged wheels, carbon fiber parts: the Aprilia RSV 1000 R Factory 2004 leaves the factory with what others pay for in accessories. The result on the scales is undeniable: 185 kg dry weight, 211 kg fully fueled for a machine capable of reaching 280 km/h. The aluminum double-beam frame connects a 320 mm radial-mounted dual disc braking system and tires 120/70-17 at the front, 190/50-17 at the rear. Nothing was left to chance.
Comparison with the Ducati 999 S was inevitable at the time and remains instructive. The Factory was listed in the catalog for 17,878 euros, almost 3,900 euros less than the Bolognese model, for at least equivalent equipment and a weight four kilos lighter. This kind of commercial argument doesn't win races on its own, but it says something about the consistency of Aprilia’s industrial project at that time. The brand from Noale wasn't trying to sell Italian prestige; it was selling measurable efficiency on the stopwatch.
This positioning has a downside. The Aprilia RSV 1000 R Factory is not a compromise machine. The bodywork, more sculpted than protective, exposes the rider as soon as the speed drops. In everyday use, it quickly reminds you that it was designed to string together timed sectors, not to swallow miles of highway in the rain. The 18-liter tank offers correct range, the 810 mm seat remains accessible for an average build, but no one should buy a Factory thinking about a long journey. It would be using a scalpel to butter bread.
Examples of this generation, whether it's the Aprilia RSV 1000 R Factory 2005 or 2006, are still circulating in good numbers on the used market. Their value remains supported precisely because the mechanics age well and the original Öhlins suspensions, properly maintained, remain relevant compared to a lot of contemporary equipment. The point of vigilance when purchasing Aprilia RSV 1000 R Factory 2005 parts and similar years is that some injection and electronics references require a little research, but the owners' community is active and specialists are not lacking. For a confirmed rider who wants a supersport with pure DNA, without the electronic assists that sterilize the sensations of recent machines, the argument still holds water.
