Overview
When Aprilia decides to push the limit, it results in the Factory. Not a simple cosmetic variant, not a pack of options disguised as a special edition: a machine built from the start with the intention of skirting the track legally. The Aprilia RSV 1000 R Factory 2005 starts with the same 997 cc V-twin as the standard RSV 1000 R, a V-twin that fundamentally has nothing to apologize for, and it dresses it in a technical endowment that makes more expensive sportbikes blush.

Specifically, the difference lies in the peripherals. The base version’s 43 mm Showa fork gives way to a fully adjustable Öhlins unit, the rear shock, also signed Öhlins, benefits from a length adjustment in addition to the traditional compression, rebound and preload adjustments, and the two-piston steering damper completes the picture. The wheels are forged, several bodywork elements are made of carbon fiber. It's not mere fine-tuning, it's a philosophy. Result: 185 kg dry weight for 138 horsepower at 9500 rpm and 107 Nm of torque at 5500 rpm. The specific power is frank, the six-speed gearbox is precise, and the announced 280 km/h are not showroom figures.
The attack on Italian competition naturally asserts itself. The Ducati 999 S of the time cost nearly 3900 euros more than the 17878 euros requested for the Aprilia RSV 1000 R Factory, while offering less standard equipment and a higher weight of four kilos. It is a commercial argument that carries weight, justifiably. Enthusiasts of the Aprilia RSV 1000 R Factory used who are looking for the 2004, 2005 or 2006 model years know this well: on the used market, the Factory retains a solid value because its standard equipment easily does without costly modifications, and Aprilia RSV 1000 R Factory 2005 spare parts remain accessible from specialists of the brand.
What distinguishes this machine from a pure track tool is its relative accessibility. The 810 mm seat height and the semi-tucked position do not forgive everything, but the V-twin delivers its torque progressively, without unnecessary brutality in the small openings. A confirmed rider will find the material to exploit every corner; an intermediate practitioner with a few seasons under his belt will not be immediately overwhelmed. The Factory is not a beginner's motorcycle, but it does not bite at first contact. The tank capacity, fifteen liters, however, recalls that we are not on a GT: autonomy calls for frequent stops, in accordance with the sporting vocation of the whole.
The flip side of the medal must be named. The narrow and aggressive bodywork offers little protection from the wind on the highway, the enveloping fairing of the old RSV belongs to another era. This 2005 Factory has visually and functionally approached a homologated race prototype, at the expense of comfort on long journeys. Two screws are enough to remove the statutory turn signals, and the license plate only holds thanks to the desire to remain within the bounds of legality. For those looking for a sportbike to exploit on the track on weekends and to bring back to the garage on Sunday evening without attracting too much attention, the Aprilia RSV 1000 R Factory remains, twenty years after its release, a coherent and honest reference in its promise.
