Overview
Novarese has always known where the line lay between sport and pure competition. With the Aprilia RSV 1000 R Factory 2006 model, the Italian brand crosses this boundary with calculated arrogance, delivering a machine that only has the circuit’s postal address as its destination.

What distinguishes this Factory version from the standard RSV-R isn't fundamentally the engine. The 997.6 cm³ V-twin benefits from the same revisions as the base version: new electronic mapping, revised exhaust valves, and five extra horsepower, bringing the power to 143 hp at 9,500 rpm. Torque peaks at 107 Nm at 8,000 rpm. On paper, the gap with a Stuttgart-built R2 1000 or a FireBlade of the time remains measured. It's elsewhere that the Factory plays its part.
The chassis is the real selling point. Forget the Showa components mentioned on entry-level versions: here, the entire suspension system is entrusted to Öhlins Racing. The 43 mm inverted fork is adjustable for preload, compression, and rebound, and the rear shock stands out with a rare feature even on machines costing €15,900: it is adjustable in length, allowing adjustment of the geometry according to the circuit or tire. A double-chamber steering damper, also signed Öhlins, completes the setup. This level of equipment directly recalls the RSV 1000 SP, that jewel reserved for Superbike competition that Aprilia once produced in confidential series. The 2006 Factory achieves the same dry weight of 185 kg, which, for an Italian sportbike of this size, represents a serious result.
Forged aluminum wheels contribute directly to this lightness. Compared to classic cast aluminum rims, they weigh 25% less while gaining in rigidity. The effect on dynamic behavior is immediate: the bike pivots more sharply, absorbs less inertia in rapid direction changes. The double-beam aluminum alloy frame, painted in this slightly golden tone that visually unifies the whole with the rims, reinforces the impression of a machine conceived as a whole rather than assembled piece by piece. The bodywork incorporates several carbon fiber elements, including the front and rear mudguards, ventilation vents, fork deflectors, and tank side covers. Nothing decorative: each part contributes to the overall weight reduction.
Who rides this Aprilia RSV 1000 R Factory 2006? Certainly not the novice. The 810 mm seat height and the 211 kg when fully fueled require a certain physical mastery, and the high-revving V-twin's character does not forgive approximations. The bike is aimed at the experienced rider who seeks a machine capable of moving from a track weekend to a mountain ride without major technical compromise. The 18-liter tank and a top speed announced at 280 km/h complete a profile clearly oriented towards performance. Compared to the Aprilia RSV 1000 R Factory 2005, the price has even slightly decreased despite the improvements, which reinforces its attractiveness in the premium sportbike segment of the time.
Those looking today for an Aprilia RSV 1000 R Factory used will find examples to watch carefully regarding spare parts, especially the Öhlins components which require rigorous maintenance. But for those who accept this requirement, the Factory remains one of the most integrated V-twin sportbikes of its generation: no contrived posture, no surplus electronics to mask approximate dynamics. Just precise mechanics, at the service of a rider who knows what they want.
