Overview
What remains when you already have everything? For a motorcycle like the Yamaha WR450F, the 2019 model year answer lies in three words: connection, carburetion, and control. Yamaha isn’t just celebrating twenty years of four-stroke enduro with a facelift; it’s injecting a dose of artificial intelligence into this off-road beast. At €8999, it clearly targets the demanding rider who wants the versatility of a trail-raid bike without the compromises of a production machine.

Beneath the new fairing that streamlines it like a 250, beats the heart of a competitor. The inverted head cylinder 450 cm³ engine, directly inherited from the YZ450F crosser, has been reworked for enduro. We’re talking about 50 horsepower, but more importantly, linear power and accessible torque, ideal for digging into the dirt without being caught off guard. The bilateral aluminum frame, thinner and lighter, perfectly fulfills its role with an announced weight of 118.8 kg fully fueled. Paired with fully adjustable KYB suspension, it offers rail-like stability in a straight line and surprising agility in technical single-tracks.
The real revolution is under the electronic hood where it’s nestled. With the Power Tuner application and the optional communication unit, the rider can now modify the injection and ignition mapping from their smartphone. It’s a monstrous precision tool, allowing the engine’s character to be adapted to muddy, sandy, or rocky terrain in seconds. The handlebar-mounted switch to toggle between two pre-recorded maps seems almost basic compared to this. This connectivity places the 2019 WR450F, and by extension the 2023 or 2024 models, in a league of their own compared to more analog competitors like the KTM 450 EXC-F.
For the desert traveler or rally enthusiast, the 8.33-liter tank remains a weak point compared to dedicated machines like a true Yamaha WR450F Rally Replica. But that’s the price to pay for this agility. The 965 mm seat, although thinner, remains high, and the 320 mm ground clearance recalls that this is a pure performance tool. It’s a motorcycle for those who seek efficiency before comfort, capable of shining in sporty enduro and adapting to supermoto with a set of wheels.
So, who should fall for a used 2019 Yamaha WR450F or a more recent new model? The technical rider who wants an ultra-modernizable machine, ready for the track or rugged trails. It’s a major evolution, not just an update, that imposes its pace thanks to a precise chassis and electronics opening up an immense field of possibilities. For the price, you get much more than a twin-cylinder; you’re buying a connected piloting tool of its time.
