Overview

One sometimes wonders if manufacturers still listen to serious enduro riders, those who tackle rocks on Sundays. With this new Yamaha WR450F, the answer is clear: Yamaha not only listened, but also took notes. For 2025, the Iwata machine doesn't just receive a cosmetic update; it undergoes a complete overhaul that puts it in a strong position against the competition. The objective is clear: to create the most agile and lightest 450 enduro in its history, a successful bet with a declared weight of 117 kilograms fully fueled.

Yamaha WR450F

The secret lies in its motocross DNA. This 2025 WR450F draws its essence from the recent YZ450F, MXGP champion, but it is in no way a simple copy dressed for the road. The engine, a 450 cm³ reverse-cylinder single, is reworked for enduro use. It features a new forged piston, a lighter crankcase, and a completely redesigned intake system. The result? A declared power output of 52 horsepower, but above all, a reworked torque delivery to be more controllable at low RPM, essential in technical trails. Compared to a KTM 450 EXC or a Husqvarna FE 450, the Yamaha character may be less brutal initially, but it promises progressivity that inspires confidence.

Where the machine really makes a difference is in its chassis and ergonomics. The bilateral aluminum frame inherited from the cross is modified: the steering tube is lowered by 15 mm and the flex is retouched to better absorb impacts. Combined with KYB suspension with a reduced stroke (300 mm front, 306 mm rear), this lowers the center of gravity and the seat height to 955 mm. The rider is placed "in" the bike, not on top of it. The flanks are refined by 50 mm, the seat is flat, making weight transfers disconcertingly easy. After a day on a previous generation WR450F, the difference in feel is immediate; you gain agility without losing stability.

Yamaha is also betting on connected electronics, a real strength. The evolved Power Tuner application allows you to adjust the engine mapping and traction control from your smartphone, with a new integrated stopwatch to refine the settings. It is a valuable tool, much more intuitive than the complicated boxes of yesteryear. The 7.4-liter tank and serious equipment (headlight, speedometer, kickstand, fan) make it a ride-ready motorcycle, even if its price, flirting with €10,200, places it in the big leagues. For whom? The demanding enduro rider seeking ultimate agility, progressivity, and a cutting-edge technology package. It is not a motorcycle for beginners, but rather the tool of the expert who wants an extension of their body in the most difficult single tracks. Yamaha hits hard with this 2025 WR450F, delivering a machine that hasn't forgotten that enduro, before being a question of power, is a matter of feel and absolute control.
