Overview
So, were you still waiting for this one? The 600 category is drowning in regulations, but Yamaha, true to its legend, refuses to bury its R6. However, in 2025, it will only greet you from the asphalt of a circuit. This Yamaha R6 Race is a pure war machine, a logical evolution for the one that dominates the WorldSSP podiums. At nearly 13,850 euros, it's a bold bet in a market where the competition, like the new Honda CBR600RR at 11,699 euros, still focuses on the road. But the R6 Race has only one religion: timed performance.

Step into its cockpit and the intention is clear. Everything has been stripped down for the stopwatch. The instrumentation, inherited from previous R1 models, is spartan. No frills, but a large tachometer and the essential controls for six-level traction control and D-Mode, which modulates engine response. The Quick Shift System (QSS) up and down is standard, for gear changes without a clutch. Weight has been shed wherever possible, resulting in a total of 185 kg fully fueled. A slimming cure that will be felt in steering changes.
The heart remains that famous 599 cm3 inline four-cylinder engine, a unit that has certainly lost a few horsepower due to Euro4, now displaying 118.4 hp at 14,500 rpm. But don't be fooled, this is where its soul resides. It doesn’t have the R1’s crossplane crankshaft, but it retains that howling sound and electric revving that made it famous. Torque, 61.8 Nm, arrives high, very high, at 10,500 rpm. It's an engine that demands to be kept in the high revs, a pure riding philosophy. The maximum speed is around 270 km/h, a figure that speaks to initiates.
Where it really makes a difference is in its chassis and equipment. The Deltabox frame and suspension, with an inverted 43 mm fork directly from the R1, offer precise feedback and fine-tuned settings. The braking system, with its radial monoblock calipers and 320 mm discs at the front, is of exemplary power and feel. It’s a motorcycle that communicates, that inspires absolute confidence when entering a corner. It is also delivered ready for the GYTR kit, including racing fairing, Akrapovic exhaust and programmable ECU, for those who are aiming directly for the track.
So, who is it for? Certainly not a beginner, nor even a Sunday rider. The Yamaha R6 Race is the tool of the confirmed track rider, the clubman looking to shave tenths of a second, or the enlightened enthusiast with a circuit nearby. Its considerable price places it in a niche compared to more versatile Kawasaki ZX-6R or Honda CBR600RR models. But for those seeking the pure essence of the supersport, stripped of all road compromises, it remains a reference. It is a precision instrument, demanding and radical, which perpetuates with panache the myth of the R6. The price of such specialization? Count 13,849 euros for the 2025 version, an investment that only stopwatch enthusiasts will understand. For others, financing solutions such as LOA exist, with for example offers around 13,999 € over 49 months for a 2024 model, but the real cost will be in tires and circuit fuel.
