Overview
There are names that carry a history, and Tiger is one of them. At Triumph, it’s not just a model; it’s a legend that has grown, moving from a road trail in 955 and 1050cc to something more adventurous. In 2014, the British brand felt it was time to redefine the rules of the game in hostile environments, and that's where the Tiger 800 XC comes into play. The idea was clear: to create an engine that isn't afraid to get its fairing dirty, a true adventurer ready to leave the tarmac without looking back.

Physically, the message is perfectly clear. You are dealing with a motorcycle that commands attention, with its steel trellis frame, its large 21-inch front tire, and its generous suspension—220 mm at the front, 215 mm at the rear. With a 845 mm seat height, you need a certain size to tame it, but the posture is that of a conqueror. The 215 kg fully fueled are felt, it’s a fact, especially on loose terrain. It's not a lightweight with intuitive handling; it's a sophisticated tractor that requires wrist strength and commitment. But once in motion, this mass is forgotten, carried by a characterful engine.
And what an engine. The 799 cc three-cylinder, derived from the Street Triple, is recalibrated here for adventure. Triumph sacrificed some frenzy at high rpm to gain flexibility and muscle at mid-range. With 95 horsepower at 9300 rpm and especially 79.4 Nm of torque available from 7850 rpm, the engine is generously endowed. It pulls hard and linearly, making overtaking on the road easy and climbs on trails pleasant. Facing the German competitor, the BMW F800 GS, the Tiger offers one more horsepower, a unique sound, and a more extroverted temperament. The Teutonic, lighter, may be more agile in pure technique, but the English responds with a presence and mechanical generosity that immediately seduces.
On the ground, that's where everything is played. The chassis, serious, inspires confidence. The braking, with its double 308 mm front discs, is powerful and controllable, ABS being welcome for delicate maneuvers on gravel. The 19-liter tank promises beautiful ranges, perfect for distant getaways. But let's be honest, with its 215 kg, the Tiger 800 XC is not a trial motorcycle. It is a grand touring trail capable of offering escapades on trails. It excels on wide tracks and broken roads, much more than in narrow and technical single-tracks.
So, who is this Tiger for? For the globetrotter who wants to escape without limits, for those looking for a charismatic and more powerful alternative to the trails in the segment. It is a motorcycle with character, demanding but generous, which gives you the impression of being able to face anything. At a price that was justified compared to the competition, it offered a compelling package. It was not the lightest, nor the most radical, but it is one of the most exhilarating to ride, the one that makes you smile under your helmet when the tarmac stops and the adventure begins.
