Overview
A motorcycle of the scrambler type, it's a roadster modified for off-road use. The 800 Urban Motard is a Ducati Scrambler modified to return to the road. Have we gone too far? Is this a return to origins? Oh no. With this new version, the Italian brand has reinvented the supermotard by remixing it with a Scrambler flavor.
This is not a Desert Sled, the tall sibling that opens the way to more or less wild spaces. The Urban Motard presents itself as a downtown agitator. A dynamic trail, as evidenced by the wheels. While almost all models in this family are fitted with mixed road tires, this one wears 17-inch Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tires. Sport-road rubber intended for nervous roadsters and other vitamin-packed machines.
From the twin exhaust pipes, you’re going to appreciate the rhythmic breathing of the 803 cm3 engine. An engine known for putting a smile on your face while riding, according to its whims. For serious pranks, stunts, and muscular traverses, the 950 HM will be more suitable. This Scrambler aims for a less wild, almost democratic fun. The 73 horsepower will allow for the necessary amount of laughter, without tipping into depravity. To calm everything down, the large 330 mm front disc is pinched by a radial 4-piston caliper. The rear is sufficient with a single piston for the 245 mm disc.
We find the same minimalist frame, the same swingarm, and the same suspension as on the other Scramblers. It is on this last point that the difference is very noticeable from the Desert Sled. The latter has much more travel (200 mm vs 150 mm), more settings, and a thicker fork (46 mm vs 41 mm). The agility of this version should improve thanks to a wheelbase reduced to 1436 mm, the shortest in the range and identical to the old Café Racer. The trail is also the lowest, going from 112 mm to 94 mm.
This more responsive chassis will perfectly echo the very provocative look of the Urban Motard. Almost graffiti-street-urban-art, which smells good of mischief after leaving the office. Enough to give a nice nod to the cousin Hypermotard RVE. Ducati has added a stitched red saddle and license plates under the saddle, on each side – the same as those of the Nightshift, in full white.
The elements inseparable from the family are there: interchangeable plates on the 13.5-liter tank, the light signature around the headlight with the immutable central X, the small LCD counter, the milling cuts on the engine belt covers, the short rear and limited electronics. The Scrambler receives ABS cornering, LEDs for everything that lights up, a USB socket under the saddle and, as an option, the DMS multimedia system.
The 800 Scrambler Urban Motard presents itself as much more urban than the Urban Enduro. Almost his son, more tempted by tricks than by trails. It seeks a young audience, and is considerate with its availability in A2 version.
