Overview

They call it the Full Throttle, and the name is well-deserved. In the jungle of scramblers, this one doesn’t just play the retro aesthetic role. It has the look of the job, with its striking yellow and deep black look, directly inherited from the dirt tracks of the Super Hooligan championship. It’s not a costume. Barely straddling it, at 79 cm from the ground, you feel you’re dealing with the purest fun version, the most direct of the Scrambler 800 family.

Ducati Scrambler 800 Full Throttle

Under the redesigned aluminum tank beats the well-known heart of the range: the 803 cm3 L-twin, here displaying 73 horsepower at 8250 rpm and a torque of 67.7 Nm available relatively early. The music is provided by a double low Termignoni outlet, which gives this air-cooled engine a deeper and less refined voice than on the Icon. That’s the whole spirit of this Ducati Scrambler 800 Full Throttle: it wasn’t created to be a background prop. The 2020 update, which allowed it to pass Euro5, has not diminished its character. It has even added equipment, such as Cornering ABS, a more complete dashboard and Ducati Multimedia connectivity. A progress that costs three kilograms, bringing the wet weight to 189 kg, but the compromise remains acceptable.

Compared to a Triumph Street Scrambler, more gentle and geared towards touring, the Full Throttle displays a sharper temperament. The handlebars are lower, the seat is reshaped, the front fender is reduced to its simplest expression. The riding position leans you slightly forward, ready to attack. The 41 mm inverted fork and the single shock absorber, both with 150 mm of travel, are reworked for more responsive reactions. The braking, with its 330 mm front disc and four-piston Brembo radial caliper, inspires absolute confidence. It's a motorcycle that encourages you to play with, much more than a simple retro-looking custom.

Ducati Scrambler 800 Full Throttle

So, who is it for? Clearly not for the absolute beginner looking for a first, trouble-free machine. The Ducati Scrambler 800 Full Throttle is aimed at the rider who has a bit of experience and is looking for a daily motorcycle full of character, capable of turning a mundane journey into a small adventure. Its price, around 11,000 euros new at the time, positioned it as a premium option in the segment. Today, looking for a used Ducati Scrambler 800 Full Throttle can be a good deal to acquire this pinch of controlled madness without breaking the bank.

Ducati Scrambler 800 Full Throttle

Its flaw? Perhaps just this slightly raw character, which can be fatiguing on very long distances or in dense urban areas. It is not as versatile and comfortable as some of its cousins. But that’s not the point. The Full Throttle, whether from 2016, 2019 or the 2023 restyling, remains a statement of intent on two wheels. It proves that you can have the soul of a flat-tracker while remaining civilized for the road. It’s not the easiest Scrambler to live with, but it’s undoubtedly the most exciting to ride in the range. A rascal, as Ducati knows how to make them so well.
