Overview
Does the ideal touring trail bike exist? For years, the BMW R 1250 GS has reigned supreme, but an English feline has radically changed its appearance since 2022 to contest its position. The 2024 Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro is not a simple evolution; it is the result of a complete overhaul that has transformed a good motorcycle into a serious threat. To understand its new positioning, you need to look at its technical specifications: 150 horsepower at 9000 rpm, 130 Nm of torque at 7000 rpm, and a wet weight of 245 kg. These figures, compared to those of the previous generation, speak for themselves: more power, more torque, less weight. The engine is the heart of this metamorphosis.

This 1160 cc three-cylinder engine is a direct transposition of that of the Speed Triple RS, one of the most explosive roadsters on the market. Triumph has therefore injected a dose of pure sportiness into this trail bike. The gain is immediately palpable: the engine is more responsive, more sonorous, and offers more decisive acceleration. But the biggest novelty for 2024 is invisible. Triumph has worked on everyday usability with a new crankshaft and balance shafts to increase inertia and low-end torque, making the machine more supple and less vibrating. The clutch is also smoother. These modifications, coupled with silent-blocs on the handlebars, make this Tiger a more civilized motorcycle for long distances, without sacrificing its character.
The chassis has also been revolutionized. A lighter frame and a conventional swingarm (farewell to the controversial monobrach) have improved agility. With a 850 mm seat height and a function that automatically reduces suspension preload when stopped, accessibility is much better. For riders, raised footpegs allow for more lean angle. The GT Pro's equipment is complete: semi-active suspension, Brembo Stylema brakes with 320 mm discs, a 7-inch TFT screen, five riding modes, adaptive headlights, a quickshifter, cruise control, and hill-hold assist. It is a machine designed for the demanding touring rider who also wants to be able to play on winding roads.

So, what is the price of a 2024 Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro? You need to spend 21595 euros. This price puts the Tiger directly in front of the GS, but with a different proposition. It is more sporty, more lively, perhaps less "off-road" than the Bavarian reference, but it offers a more intoxicating mechanical character. Its 20-liter tank and shaft drive reinforce its status as a grand touring motorcycle. Forums dedicated to the Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro often highlight this duality: a high-end touring machine with the soul of a roadster. For a rider looking for a dynamic touring trail bike, less conventional than the GS, this Tiger is a very attractive alternative. It proves that a large trail bike can have temperament, without compromising on comfort and technology. The tiger finally has the fangs to truly compete with the king.
