Overview
Is this finally the moment when the British tiger can seriously bite the heels of the unassailable GS? After a decade circling the king of road-going adventure bikes, Triumph has bared its claws with this Tiger 1200 GT Pro. The ambition is clear: no longer be the friendly alternative, but become a credible threat. And the least one can say is that the beast has been completely redesigned for the hunt.

The heart of the change beats in the form of an inline three-cylinder engine derived from the Speed Triple RS. This 1160 cm3 engine is a marvel of responsiveness, delivering 150 horsepower at 9000 rpm and a muscular torque of 130 Nm. It mainly brings a significant weight reduction, a reduction in size and a more aggressive sound. Paired with a cleaner shaft drive, it propels this large trail bike with an enthusiasm that almost makes you forget its 240 kg fully fueled. The steel tubular frame and the new aluminum swingarm contribute to this rediscovered agility, far from the sluggishness of previous generations. Braking, entrusted to Brembo Stylema monoblock calipers, has a bite to match the performance.
Where does the added value of this GT Pro lie compared to a standard version? Not in its look, which is almost identical, but in its abundant equipment. Everything is there: the semi-active Showa suspension, the 7-inch color TFT screen, the five riding modes, the up/down shifter, the cruise control, the traction control and cornering ABS managed by an IMU, the adaptive headlights, heated grips, hill hold, and even an engine guard. It is a motorcycle ready for grand touring straight from the dealer. One might just regret that the screen, although adjustable, is not higher for those planning long highway stages. For that, you will need to turn to the Explorer version and its 30-liter tank, or explore the market for Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro accessories.

Who is the target audience? The demanding globetrotter who travels thousands of kilometers on all types of surfaces, but with a clear preference for asphalt. It is a pure road trail bike, more sporty and lively than many of its rivals. Faced with a BMW R 1250 GS, more versatile and rustic, or a Ducati Multistrada V4, more technological and radical, Triumph plays the card of elegance and agility. Its price, around 21,000 euros for the 2022 version, firmly places it in the high-end segment. When someone asks "what is the price of a Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro 2024?", you should expect a similar envelope, or even a slightly more substantial one.

So, verdict? This Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro is the best iteration of the British big trail ever produced. It finally has the finesse, character and equipment to give the German benchmark a run for its money. It will not dethrone it, because the GS has an unshakable foundation, but it now imposes a tight duel on its own terrain, the road. For the rider looking for engaging grand touring and an enchanting triple-cylinder sound, the tiger more than deserves a test ride.
