Overview
Triumph partners with a very famous and very select watchmaking brand: Breitling. Behind this name with British accents lies a Swiss manufacture created in 1884. It has earned a reputation for excellence in the field of aeronautics and luxury watches.
It is however on a two-wheeled vehicle that the alliance takes shape with the Hinckley brand. A 1200 Speed Twin will be produced in a limited number of 270 copies, with a particular color scheme, a few identifying features, and a... original bonus as a distinctive element.
The Speed Twin is the most vibrant version of the Bonneville – not the most sporty, mind you. This special series adopts a very specific pastel blue hue, the same as that of the 1951 Thunderbird. It is said that this color is inspired by the Tbird in the film "The Wild One" with Marlon Brando. Personally, I’ve never seen or heard of it. But it’s a change from the eternal refrain about Steve McQueen.
Certain details are hand-painted and the reference to the Breitling brand is present in multiple locations. At the top of the tank, at the end of the perforated leather seat with topstitching, on the engine casing badges. The dual-dial instrumentation is revised according to style elements taken from the Top Time watch – a timepiece paired with the Speed Twin.
Triumph really went all out in 2022 with a host of special series, all enhanced by special decorations (Gold Line, Ton-Up, 221, etc.). This retro-modern roadster goes even further by incorporating two Öhlins rear shock absorbers. Increased efficiency and a high-end feel go hand in hand with the character this machine wants to convey. This also explains the significant price increase.
Therefore, there will only be 270. And why? Because it is the engine timing of the twin. Each owner will know exactly which copy they have thanks to the presence of the serial number engraved on the handlebar mounting plate and the certificate of authenticity. You will find the signatures of the bosses of Triumph and Breitling there.
The bonus, what is it? A flight? A meal at Breitling in the Haut-Jura? The watch we were talking about earlier? Uh.... Almost, but fire up the credit card. Owning a Speed Twin Breitling edition allows you to... to order a Top Time also in a limited edition; with an edition number corresponding to that of the motorcycle and the Triumph logo engraved on the dial. Be careful, you must fulfill two conditions: be the first owner and submit your request before August 22, 2022. The Top Time chronograph is also planned in two distinct versions. One for the main collection, the other exclusively for Speed Twin buyers. The Swiss will ask you for a little over 5000 euros in exchange for the watch.
The Triumph will have already drained you of much more than that. It will then offer its gentleman the vigor of its 100 horsepower, the torque via its 11.4 mkg, the force of its M50 brakes, the grip of the Metzeler Racetec RR tires, and a dose of copilots with three Riding Modes, traction control, and ABS. Time has passed since the 865 Bonneville Tag Heuer; Triumph's ambitions and level have also increased.
