Overview
It’s 2001, and the custom world is vibrating to the rhythm of big V-Twins. In this arena where America reigns supreme, Suzuki launches its contender with the LC 1500, a machine that doesn’t mess around. With its 1462 cm3, this 45° V-twin, compressed to a modest 8.5:1, is clearly in the realm of easy torque, not brute power. The 67 horsepower delivered at 4800 rpm are almost anecdotal, but the real message lies elsewhere: 113.8 Nm available from 2300 rpm. That’s where the soul of this Intruder resides, in this ventral, constant thrust that devours long, straight stretches without ever asking to be solicited.

Visually, the Suzuki Intruder LC 1500 doesn’t go unnoticed. It borrows without complex the codes of the American low rider, with its large 180 rear tire, its low seat at 70 cm, and its massive appearance. It even makes you think, from afar, of a certain Road King from Milwaukee. But it’s an optical illusion. As soon as you try to move it, the 328 kg, fully fueled, remind you of their presence. The steering is heavy in town, maneuvers require anticipation, and you can feel that this beast is made for national roads, not cobblestone streets. It’s a touring bike disguised as a custom, period.
Where things seriously fall short is in its range. A 15.5-liter tank to feed an engine of this size is absurd. Count the gas stations on your route, because the air- and oil-cooled twin has a certain thirst. It’s the major flaw of this 1500 Intruder, the one that spoils the pleasure of long journeys for which its comfort and chassis, with its smooth-running cardan drive, are nevertheless designed. The five-speed gearbox isn’t the most precise in the world, but the brakes, with their two discs, do the job without pretension.
So, who is the rider of this Suzuki Intruder LC 1500? It’s the one who dreams of a custom presence and inexhaustible torque without wanting, or being able, to pay the price of a Harley. At just under 11,000 euros at the time, it positioned itself as the most accessible option in the big-bore world. That was its selling point. An imperfect machine, with its weight, its appetite, and its lack of refinement, but which offered, for those who accept its limits, a breath of America with a Japanese engine. A detonating mix that had a certain effect.
