Overview
The late 1990s saw the market for large-displacement custom motorcycles explode, and Suzuki responded to this demand with the Intruder LC 1500. This machine is a direct evolution of the Intruder 1400, retaining its proven mechanical architecture but adopting a more assertive silhouette, lower and more imposing, clearly inspired by American touring bikes like the Harley-Davidson Road King.

Its engine is a 45° V-twin of 1462 cm3, air- and oil-cooled. It delivers 67 horsepower at 4800 rpm and a torque of 113.8 Nm from 2300 rpm. This engine provides smooth and ample propulsion, ideal for long distances, but it is not distinguished by exceptional liveliness. The transmission is provided by a five-speed gearbox and a shaft drive, guaranteeing reliability and the absence of laborious maintenance. With a fuel tank of only 15.5 liters and a significant fuel consumption, range becomes a weak point for extended journeys.
The chassis rests on a steel tubular double cradle frame. The telescopic fork and single shock absorber offer suspension travel suited to the road, conferring stable handling and correct comfort. However, the wet weight of 328 kg and a somewhat heavy steering at low speed make urban maneuvers or evolutions on small roads less easy. The seat height of 700 mm facilitates accessibility. The brakes, with a 300 mm disc at the front and a 275 mm disc at the rear, are effective for this type of machine.
The Suzuki Intruder LC 1500 positions itself as an economical alternative in the segment of large customs. Its price of 10699 euros at the time was a compelling argument compared to its often more expensive American competitors. It is particularly suitable for the touring rider seeking a machine with a distinctive aesthetic, comfortable for long journeys, but without the requirements of sporty performance. Its limitations lie in its reduced range and maneuverability in confined areas, compensated for by its mechanical robustness and placid character.
