Overview
Who said that a large-displacement custom had to necessarily cost a fortune and bear an eagle emblem? In the mid-2000s, Suzuki placed its heavyweight on the table of negotiations with the Intruder LC 1500, a machine that confidently assumes its status as an accessible low rider. We are talking about a 1462 cm3 V-twin engine, producing 67 horsepower and, above all, a torque of 113.8 Nm available from 2300 rpm. These figures do not aim for pure performance, but for tractive effort, that feeling of constant thrust in the wrist that defines the charm of big twins.

With nearly 330 kilograms all fueled up and a seat height of 70 cm, the beast commands respect. It openly draws inspiration from American touring bikes, with this stretched silhouette, wide wheels (150 at the front, 180 at the rear) and this 15.5-liter tank that, let’s admit it, serves as a postage stamp on an engine as demanding as this. Autonomy will be its Achilles' heel, end of story. On the other hand, the double cradle frame and the shaft drive transmission confer all-proof robustness and this characteristic smoothness in acceleration. The five-speed gearbox is not the most precise on the market, but it gets the job done.
Compared to a Harley-Davidson Road King of the time, the Suzuki Intruder LC 1500 clearly plays the value-for-money card. At a little over 10,000 euros new, it offered the large-displacement custom experience without the premium of the brand. The dual-disc braking is honest, the suspension correct for swallowing asphalt, but don’t ask it to dance in the city. Its weight and sluggish steering limit it to straight lines and clear departmental roads.
This Suzuki is for the globetrotter who wants character without breaking the bank, for those who prefer the grumpy atmosphere of an air-cooled twin to the strident cries of a four-cylinder engine. It does not shine with finesse, but with mechanical sincerity. A simple, reliable engine, which grumbles without ever running out of breath, an undeniable physical presence, and this price that remains its sledgehammer argument. The Suzuki Intruder LC 1500 is anti-snobbery on two wheels, a machine that reminds us that custom pleasure begins first and foremost with the feeling of power, not with the label on the tank.
