Overview
Can an MV Agusta really find its place in the hushed world of trail-GTs? Judging by the Turismo Veloce R, the answer is a sharp one, like an entry into a corner: yes, but in its own way, with an elegance that borders on provocation. Here, we're not talking about a hefty twin-cylinder engine, but the famous three-cylinder 798 cc engine, inherited from the F3 sportbikes. With 110 horsepower at 11,000 rpm and 84 Nm of torque, its vocation is clearly not transcontinental cruising. It's a lively engine, which prefers quick bursts of acceleration to long, straight lines, a mechanical element that sings more than it murmurs.

The price, justifiably, is a crucial point. At €17,900, this R (formerly Rosso) version makes a confident entry-level offering. The manufacturer has trimmed costs on finishes and limited the color palette to two options in order to compete with rivals like the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT or the BMW F 900 XR. The gamble is bold, because even in an "accessible" version, the MV Agusta Turismo Veloce R retains its aura of a desirable object. Its design is a successful blend of sporty references – this snout inspired by the F3 – and daring elements, such as this passenger seat that seems to float. The detail is everywhere, from the integrated turn signals to the discreet engravings, recalling that you are dealing with a unique piece in the segment.
On the road, the character is confirmed. With a dry weight of 191 kg and a seat height of 830 mm, it clearly positions itself on the side of sporty trails, or even dressed roadsters. The chassis, a classic steel tubular trellis, is lively and precise. The Marzocchi and Sachs suspensions, although conventional, offer a good compromise, while the Brembo brakes do the job without unnecessary frills. It's solid, but the major asset lies in the electronics. The MVICS 2.1 platform deploys an impressive array of riding aids: cornering ABS, adjustable traction control, anti-wheeling, cruise control, and even a bi-directional quickshifter. The motorcycle is intelligent, almost too much so for those seeking simplicity.

So, who is this Italian made for? Certainly not for the long-distance rider who counts kilometers in autopilot mode, nor for the adventurer in search of trails. The MV Agusta Turismo Veloce R is aimed rather at the demanding enthusiast, the one who wants to combine sporty weekends in the mountains with elegant road use. It is the trail for those who hate conventional trails, a characterful machine that embraces its choices. It makes no compromises, and that is precisely what makes it so endearing. At this price, you are buying an experience, much more than a simple means of transport.
