Overview
Something has changed in the approach to the Turismo Veloce family. The most affordable was called Rosso; it has become R. This is not at all a diminutive of Racing. At MV, it’s the RC and RR models that evoke the track.
But, that being said, whether it was Rosso or R, the idea is the same: to offer an MV-Agusta at a "reasonable" price. The 800 TV receives a lowered seat, longer gear ratios, an improved throttle feel, and a slightly updated instrumentation this year.
Previously, the Varese crossover had already considered revising its internals. In 2021, when the engine was brought into Euro5 compliance, with the blessing of a few modifications. New moving parts, reduced friction, modified exhaust, more powerful injectors, modified gear ratios – the final figures confirmed that neither power nor torque were impacted. The manufacturer even reported a 12% increase in the torque curve between 3,000 and 6,000 rpm.
It’s in the electronics that the Turismo has gained the most. The installation of an IMU allows for an active cornering ABS, supplied by Continental. A cruise control, a version 3.0 shifter, a new larger (5.5-inch) TFT screen with revised graphics are also noticeable. These were introduced with the latest Brutale 1000. It can be paired with a smartphone and interact with it via the MV Ride app.
A beautiful palette of improvements, ideal for showing the public and the competition the verve of one of the most surprising MV-Agustas. With the birth of the Turismo Veloce, "Meccanica Verghera" also embarked on a 2-wheeled SUV. The TV 800 is a blend of trail, roadster, and the sporty temperament of the brand. It’s also a model that is not really inexpensive. But by integrating it into the R range (formerly Rosso), the manufacturer has reduced its price. But at what cost?! (in the literal and figurative sense)
First by limiting the choice of colors: a sepulchral black or a sanguine presence. A black skirt that invades the lower body, from the plastics to the metallic elements, topped with a sanguine cape. Then, the manufacturing processes have been revised. A bit tight to explain the €3,000 less than the previous version. The factory has had to take the opportunity to establish a new pricing strategy in order to mingle with the 900 Tracer GT and F 900 XR.
Fine and taut curves, concern for beauty, sweating sporty effects, contained stature and palpable tension, the Turismo Veloce is truly an MV. A refined and graceful blend provoking curiosity after congratulations. A snout heavily inspired by the F3 gives the first note of a score between sport and tourism. Note the superb design of the rear, with a passenger seat that seems to be in semi-suspension. Succumb to the inclined chevrons delimiting the finesse of the rear lights. The Turismo Veloce wants to be a trail, but above all wants to be the most desirable.
The exhaust pipes take the appearance of those of the F3 and Brutale models equipped with the 3-cylinder engine. Logical, as the machine is also powered by the Tre Pistoni. However, the final shape is more square, as if inspired by the old F4. The concern for detail and offering exceptional scents is extended by the discreet quilted stitching on the seat, a monobrach, LED turn signals embedded in the handguards, the finely luminous polygon surrounding the optical unit, moments of MV-Agusta engraving here and there... The temptation is omnipresent.
The norm in the trail-GT segment is the large twin, preferably 1200 cc. MV has instead opted for a sizzling mechanical package already named in its sporty F3, taken up by its roadster Brutale and Dragster. Thus, the 3-cylinder super compact settles into the Turisme Veloce, in its 800cc measurement. Fiery and angry, the 3-cylinder is calibrated to deliver 110 horsepower at 11,000 rpm. In terms of torque, it offers 8.57 mkg at 8,500 rpm. It smells of nervous trail, more likely to excite your back than the purring of a GT.
Fans of technology will appreciate its advanced electronics, the 800 Turismo Veloce housing the MVICS 2.1 platform. Behind this code name lies a flourish of driving assistance features. Three riding modes (Touring, Sport, Rain) + one customizable – the parameterization possibilities are worthy of the Gran Turismo game. It is possible to set the sensitivity of the throttle, the angle-sensitive traction control, the torque curve, the power, the engine braking, and the engine responsiveness to a defined number of levels. The motorcycle is also equipped with a wheelie control system, cruise control, and the third generation EAS shifter. This allows you to upshift and downshift without touching the clutch. Let's conclude this chapter of silicon with on-board cornering ABS and Bluetooth? Yes, unless you opt for the Lusso SCS version, enriched with semi-active suspensions, a semi-automatic clutch, and GPS.
An MV frame bears a signature: two aluminum pieces fixed to a steel trellis frame. Very similar to that of the former Rivale, its structure is a little wider and the footpegs are modified to accommodate a center stand. With 160 mm and 165 mm of travel, the suspensions are supplied by Marzocchi for the 43 mm inverted fork and Sachs for the rear shock absorber. The settings have been revised for 2021. Brembo handles the braking and it’s serious without being hypersport. Radial mount, 4 pistons per caliper and 320 mm front discs; 220 mm disc and dual-piston caliper for the rear. With a delicate stature, the Turismo Veloce is also on the scale at 191 kilos. Its tank envisages good stages, with 21.5 liters of capacity.
The taste of trail, you will find it different and more pronounced with this machine from Varese. The appearance gives the desire, the body expresses impulses of sport, the engine smells of gunpowder. Manifestly inclined to cover the winding roads with speed, the machine will express more its Italian fiery genes than a pretense of "camping" between roads, paths and trees. This MV-Agusta seems to wear its name very well.
