Overview

Can one still justify buying a supersport in 2022, as the segment empties out year after year? Varese answers in the affirmative with the MV Agusta F3 800 RC 2022, a limited edition of 200 units that plays the exclusivity card without apology. Priced at 24,000 euros, it targets enthusiasts willing to pay top dollar for a machine that is as much a racing motorcycle as it is a collector's piece. Since its first appearance, the F3 800 RC has gone through several notable iterations, whether the MV Agusta F3 800 RC 2016, 2017 or 2018, each one refining the recipe. This 2022 version, however, marks a genuine change of platform.

MV Agusta F3 800 RC

This time, the MV Agusta F3 800 RC is built on the F3 800 RR platform, which brings a redesigned fairing incorporating winglets molded directly into the bodywork. The front fender, now more enveloping, integrates cooling scoops for the brake calipers, a detail reminiscent of WorldSBK machinery. The rear wheel sheds 10% of its mass, directly benefiting agility on corner entry. The MV Agusta F3 800 RC spec sheet confirms a radical temperament: 798 cc, inline three-cylinder, 155 hp at 13,250 rpm and 88.1 Nm at 10,100 rpm, all wrapped in a 165 kg dry weight. The power-to-weight ratio places this Italian at the level of the segment's best references, Ducati Panigale V2 and Yamaha R7 included, even though those two play in very different price brackets.

The red, white and green tricolor livery celebrates not so much the Italian flag as the colors of the Reparto Corse, the brand's racing department. The visual cues from machines competing in Moto2 and World Supersport are all there. The result is striking without being garish. Owners of previous editions, MV Agusta F3 800 RC 2019, 2020 or 2021, will recognize the DNA, but the finish has gained in coherence. On the equipment front, a racing kit is included in the box: race-style fuel cap, machined aluminum brake and clutch levers, monoblock seat cowl and, above all, a titanium Akrapovic exhaust paired with its dedicated ECU. It is this kit that unlocks the claimed 155 hp and shaves 8 kg off the scales.

Compared to the MV Agusta F3 800 RC 2020, the mechanical evolutions run deep. Euro5 compliance pushed the engineers to revise the valve guides, crankshaft bearings, pistons and exhaust header. The clutch was reworked and the mapping refined. The tubular steel trellis frame, bolted to two aluminum plates, receives lateral reinforcements for added rigidity. The oil cooler is more efficient and several bodywork elements switch to carbon fiber. The 43 mm inverted fork benefits from a TiN titanium nitride coating for silkier action. The braking system, entrusted to two 320 mm discs up front with four-piston radial calipers, proves worthy of the performance level.

The electronics take a leap forward with a Continental inertial measurement unit managing a lean-sensitive ABS. The 5.5-inch TFT display opens access to Bluetooth, GPS and the MV Ride app. Four engine maps, traction control, anti-wheelie, launch control, third-generation EAS quickshifter: the arsenal is complete. For those seeking a used MV Agusta F3 800 RC or a limited edition such as the AMG version, the second-hand market remains an option, but resale prices hold remarkably well on this type of numbered series. At 24,000 euros, the MV Agusta F3 800 RC 2022 is not aimed at beginners or the sensible-minded. It speaks to riders who want a handcrafted, exclusive sportbike, capable of going toe-to-toe with the Japanese on track while delivering that extra dose of soul that only Varese knows how to distill.
