Overview
What drives a manufacturer to produce only 350 units of an already exclusive sportbike? At MV Agusta, the answer comes down to two letters: RC, for Reparto Corse. The competition department of the Varese firm stamps its crest on the MV Agusta F3 800 RC 2018, and the result is a middleweight supersport that clearly plays the exclusivity card against the Yamaha R6 and Triumph Daytona 675 of this world. Except those two offer you neither a numbered plate on the triple clamp nor a certificate of authenticity. The F3 800 RC does.

On the mechanical front, the 798 cc inline three-cylinder carries over the base of the standard F3 800, brought up to Euro4 compliance with revisions to the cylinder head, valve train, and six-speed gearbox. The quoted figures remain identical to the standard version on paper, but that doesn't account for the mapping kit delivered with the machine. Once plugged into the ECU, it unleashes 153 horsepower at 13,000 rpm and 88 Nm of torque at 10,600 rpm. The Italian triple then sings in a register that only a 120-degree engine can produce, especially since the SC Project titanium exhaust system with carbon silencer replaces the stock unit. For those looking for a used MV Agusta F3 800 RC, it is often this exhaust that makes the difference at resale compared to previous model years, as the MV Agusta F3 800 RC 2016 and MV Agusta F3 800 RC 2017 were equipped differently in that regard.
On the chassis side, the ALS steel tubular trellis frame houses an inverted Marzocchi fork and an adjustable Sachs monoshock. The radial-mount Brembo monobloc four-piston front brakes inspire confidence, even though ABS remains optional on this model year — a questionable choice at this price point. At 173 kg dry, with a short 1,380 mm wheelbase and a seat perched at 805 mm, the F3 is clearly aimed at riders who like sharp, compact sportbikes. Those over 6 feet tall may find the riding position a touch cramped on longer rides, but nobody buys this machine to gobble up motorway miles.
The onboard electronics deserve a closer look. The MVICS 2.0 system offers eight-level traction control, four engine modes including one fully configurable, and a standard EAS quickshifter. The ride-by-wire throttle rounds out the arsenal. You end up with a level of rider aids worthy of Superbike, housed in a 798 cc fairing. That is a considerable asset for anyone wanting to hit the track without spending a fortune on additional preparation. Subsequent model years, from the MV Agusta F3 800 RC 2019 to the MV Agusta F3 800 RC 2024, refined this electronics package, but the foundation was already solid in 2018. Also worth noting is the existence of the MV Agusta F3 800 RC AMG, an even more limited series born from the partnership with Mercedes.
Then there is the question of price. At 21,170 euros, the MV Agusta F3 800 RC spec sheet places this Italian machine in a pricing stratosphere where Japanese competition offers superior outright performance for far less money. But the equation is not measured solely in horsepower per euro. The Ergal footpegs, carbon seat cowl, anodized aluminum covers, paddock stand, and Reparto Corse–branded bike cover make up a package found nowhere else in this category. The MV Agusta F3 800 RC limited edition is aimed at enthusiasts who want a rare sportbike, technically refined and carrying a strong identity. If you are looking for the best price-to-performance ratio, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a machine that will thrill you every time you turn the key, this one makes a compelling case.
