Overview
What drives a manufacturer to limit production to 250 units, if not the desire to turn a motorcycle into an object of lust? With the MV Agusta F3 800 RC 2017, the Schiranna firm capitalizes on its World Supersport exploits — those of Jules Cluzel and Lorenzo Zanetti — to offer a version dressed in racing livery. The famous number 37, proudly displayed on the bodywork, points to the manufacturer's speed racing palmarès. An approach reminiscent of the first MV Agusta F3 800 RC 2015 and a continuation of the F4 RC spirit. A numbered plate on the fork yoke, carbon seat cowl, Ergal footpegs, anti-snap ball-joint levers, an MV Corse paddock stand, and a Reparto Corse cover complete the package. The price climbs to €18,150, placing this limited edition in a sphere where you pay as much for exclusivity as for performance. For anyone seeking a used MV Agusta F3 800 RC, residual values remain strong — proof that the formula works.

Don't expect a remapped monster like the F4 and its 212 horsepower. Beneath the race fairing, the 798 cc inline three-cylinder remains faithful to the standard F3 800 spec sheet. That means 148 horsepower unleashed at 13,000 rpm and 88 Nm of torque at 10,600 rpm, with a 13:1 compression ratio that demands a definite appetite for high revs. This engine is the real selling point of the range, vintage after vintage, whether we're talking about the MV Agusta F3 800 RC 2016, 2018, 2019, or more recent evolutions up to the MV Agusta F3 800 RC 2024. The Italian triple possesses a sound and character that neither the Yamaha R6 nor the Triumph Daytona 675 can claim. The ride-by-wire throttle feeds a full MVICS system, with traction control adjustable over eight levels, four engine maps including one fully customizable, and a standard EAS quickshifter. You end up with a Superbike-worthy electronic arsenal housed in 173 kg dry. The power-to-weight ratio drops to 1.17 kg/hp, compared to 1.35 for the old 675. On paper, the MV Agusta F3 800 RC — price and performance combined — plays in a league of its own against the Japanese competition.
On the chassis side, the ALS steel trellis frame paired with aluminum side plates remains a house signature. The 1,380 mm wheelbase hasn't changed since the 675, but the swingarm lengthened to 576.5 mm improves traction on corner exit. The Marzocchi inverted fork and Sachs rear shock received settings adapted to the extra power. The radial-mount four-piston Brembo monoblock calipers inspire immediate confidence under braking — a point where this Italian clearly outclasses a period Kawasaki ZX-6R. The Bosch 9MP ABS, compact and lightweight, offers two modes: a road setting and a track mode that can be deactivated. The seat perched at 805 mm and the 16.5-litre tank demand a rather sporty build; shorter riders will have to cope with the height, taller ones with the limited range.
Should you take the plunge on this special edition? If you're after a middleweight supersport with character and genuine rarity, the answer is yes without hesitation. The MV Agusta F3 800 RC is aimed at demanding track riders and informed collectors, not beginners or weekend cruisers. Its claimed top speed of 269 km/h, six-speed chain-driven transmission, and rigorous chassis make it a precision instrument. The entry price remains steep, the MV Agusta dealer network sometimes temperamental for servicing, and the ergonomics sacrifice everything to sport. But when the triple screams past 10,000 rpm and the trellis frame carves its line through a bend, you understand why Varese continues to fascinate where others settle for merely manufacturing. The 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 versions have carried on this legacy with cosmetic and electronic tweaks, including the highly exclusive MV Agusta F3 800 RC AMG born from the partnership with Mercedes. But the 2017 vintage remains the one that laid the foundations of this RC lineage, and it ages with panache.
