Overview

Who can boast of combining a record of 37 world titles with a confidential production run of just 250 units? MV Agusta, obviously. With the 2015 vintage F3 800 RC, the Schiranna firm plays a tune that nobody else in the supersport paddock has mastered: that of a production sportbike dressed like a race machine, signed by the hand of its factory riders. Jules Cluzel, who came within reach of the Supersport title that season with three victories to his name, puts his signature on the right side of the tank. Lorenzo Zanetti signs the left. This kind of detail cannot be made up, and it appears on neither a Yamaha R6 nor a Triumph Daytona 675.

MV Agusta F3 800 RC

On paper, the spec sheet of the MV Agusta F3 800 RC does not differ from the standard version. The 798 cc triple retains its 148 horsepower at 13,000 rpm and 88 Nm of torque at 10,600 rpm. No engine preparation along the lines of the F4 RC and its insane 212 horsepower. But make no mistake: with a compression ratio of 13.3:1, a typical oversquare bore-and-stroke layout (79 x 54.3 mm), and a peak power rpm that flirts with the redline, this engine loves to rev and makes no secret of it. The taller final drive ratio (17/41 versus 16/43 on the 675) allows it to reach a top speed of 269 km/h. For a "small" supersport, that is a figure that speaks for itself.

What sets the Reparto Corse version apart is its peripheral equipment. Anti-snap ball-joint levers, Ergal footpegs, carbon seat cowl, anodized aluminum mirror block-off plates, an MV Corse-branded paddock stand, and a dedicated bike cover. A numbered plaque signed by Giovanni Castiglioni accompanies each unit. All of this for a price of 17,090 euros — admittedly steep compared to the Japanese competition, but justified by the exclusivity and perceived quality. For those looking for a used MV Agusta F3 800 RC, the 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 model years carried on this limited-edition tradition with cosmetic evolutions, just as the 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 versions refined the electronics and chassis over the years. The MV Agusta F3 800 RC AMG collaboration even pushed the prestige factor further still.

On the chassis side, the tubular steel trellis frame bolted to aluminum plates remains a brand signature. The 43 mm inverted fork offers 125 mm of travel, while the rear monoshock provides 123 mm. Brembo monoblock calipers bite 320 mm discs up front. The Bosch 9MP ABS, compact and lightweight, can be deactivated for track sessions — a point that trackday riders will appreciate. The onboard electronics are no joke either: ride-by-wire throttle, eight-level traction control, four engine maps including one fully configurable, and a quickshifter fitted as standard. All of this to harness 148 horsepower in a chassis weighing 173 kg dry, yielding a power-to-weight ratio of 1.17 kg/hp. Compared to the Daytona 675 or the Kawasaki ZX-6R of the era, the F3 800 holds a clear advantage in raw power while running standard tire sizes (120/70-17 front, 180/55-17 rear) and a seat height of 805 mm.

A test ride of the MV Agusta F3 800 RC reveals a machine built for the demanding rider — one who wants to ride fast on track on Sundays and show off intelligently during the week. It is not made for the beginner, nor for the long-distance tourer with its 16.5-liter tank. It is aimed at the lover of fine Italian machinery, willing to pay the price of exclusivity and to accept a dealer network less extensive than that of the Japanese manufacturers. The MV Agusta F3 800 RC limited edition remains, year after year, one of the most desirable supersports on the market. Not the most rational, not the cheapest. Simply the most beautiful.
