Overview
When Mandello del Lario decides to build a sportbike, it doesn’t seek to compete with Japanese factories on their own terms. The CBR or the GSX-R play the card of the chronograph, of 0 to 100, of raw power delivered to the millimeter. The V11 Le Mans, on the other hand, plays a radically different score, almost provocative in its logic.

Let’s start with the essentials: you don’t mount this machine, you contemplate it. The 2004 Rosso e Nero Corsa livery is a visual slap. The deep red against the matte black, the sculpted volumes of the 90° V-twin that protrudes from each side of the trellis frame, the 43 mm Öhlins inverted fork that captures the light like a storefront jewel. At 12,990 euros upon release, Guzzi was selling as much a sculpture as a means of transportation. You circle around it before mounting it, almost reluctantly breaking the picture.
Then the engine starts. This 1064 cc pushrod engine, with its 92 mm bore for 80 mm stroke, is like nothing else. The vibrations rise into the wrists, into the thighs, into the bones. The 91 horsepower at 7800 rpm seem modest on paper, especially for 243 kg fully fueled, but the 94 Nm of torque available from the mid-range tells a different story. You ride by winding it on, in third, in fifth, it doesn't matter, the machine pushes with a disconcerting frankness. It’s not the velocity of a Japanese four-cylinder, it’s something more carnal, more direct.
However, you must compose with the flaws of the beast. The 6-speed gearbox lacks precision and demands a firm but patient hand, especially on corner exits. The Öhlins fork, excellent on normal roads, shows its limits when the pace increases sharply: it lacks rigidity for truly sporty use, and the interrupted double cradle chassis does not favor surgical precision in handling. The V11 is not a bike for improvisation. It forgives few late corner entries and requires anticipatory reading of the trajectory. Those who comply discover a consistent bike; those who rush it remain frustrated.
The braking, on the other hand, is without criticism. The two 320 mm front discs bite seriously, and the 282 mm rear provides the balance. The shaft drive eliminates any chain maintenance and proves remarkably smooth in use. For a touring bike that devours kilometers without rushing, it’s a real comfort. The 800 mm seat remains accessible for most builds, and the 20.7 liter tank offers reassuring range for long stages, with a top speed announced at 220 km/h that is easily believed on an open stretch.
The V11 Le Mans Rosso e Nero Corsa is aimed at an experienced rider who seeks more the emotional journey than pure performance. It is not a bike for beginners, nor for those who dream of pointing at 9000 rpm on exit from Rascasse. It is a bike for drivers who want to feel every kilometer, accept the compromises with a smile, and return home with the impression of having ridden something unique rather than efficient. In a segment where everything looks alike, it is already a rare quality.
