Overview
When Ducati released the 1100 Scrambler, it was for more torque, to reinforce the frame, to recapture the joy of finding the large desmo with its cooling fins. But something was missing. A more spiced blend of memories and visual appeal. A motorcycle with the scents of vanilla and cigar.
Here it is, this cocktail with the 1100 Tribute Pro. This latest version of the Scrambler adds a touch of sugar cane to the freshness of the Icon, with a dry-tasting 1079 cm3 and a few attributes of an old acquaintance. It’s a pleasure to find the spoked wheels again, unearthed from the still-warm wardrobe of the Scrambler Special.
The Tribute Pro has a very specific idea of how it wants to present itself. The ochre yellow color and the tank typography guide collectors. We dive into the 1970s to honor the first air-cooled twin. It was in 1971, to power the 750 GT. Half a century later, Ducati presents a motorcycle that revives that time. Small details accompany the wink, such as the circular rearview mirrors or the brown saddle with stitching.
A tribute to time, and to that engine that has crossed it. All 1100 Scramblers use it with the same specifications. Around 86 horsepower at 7500 rpm and a maximum of 9 mkg of torque at 4750 rpm. Not staggering for an engine of this displacement. But it’s not these figures that matter. You have to appreciate the feat of making this mechanical relic pass Euro5, neither liquid-cooled nor multisoupape, with its inimitable character.
The frame also does not differ from the other large Scramblers. The steel tubular frame is discreet and serene. The Tribute receives the same elements as the 1100 Dark Pro and the ex-Pro: a 45 mm fully adjustable Marzocchi inverted fork, a Kayaba shock absorber, 150 mm of travel, two 320 mm front brake discs with radially mounted Brembo 4-piston calipers named M4.32, an ABS active in corners, a 245 mm rear brake disc with a single-pin brake pad, around 211 kilos fully fueled and 15 liters of gasoline in the belly.
The engine block and the design murmur the rhythm of yesteryear. But scents of hot oil may not flavor the ground. To console ourselves, we enjoy today's technology with the 3 Riding Modes, traction control, full LED lighting, a USB socket under the saddle, a dual-screen LCD instrumentation and the Multimedia option to couple the smartphone.
The Italian twin, refreshed by the wind flowing over the metal - a pantheon of the brand. Does it live through these last years in the Scrambler? The bicylinder is not interested in fashion or the chronograph - it likes the mid-range, to hit the arteries and shake the back. The 1100 Tribute Pro is here to recall 50 years of mechanical passion. The cult is worth a hefty price and the performance is that of a passionate heart.
